Hi Guys n' Girls

Occasionally i can smell a very faint whiff of gas when I'm sat in the drivers seat - and parked up....

The Gas locker is immediately to the right of the driver's seat below the window.. Euro Shell on UK chassis..

I've sprayed copius amounts of " Gas leak" spray on and around the fittings in the locker.. and the flexi pipe too - with no visible bubbling etc.. I note the hose - sorta stinks anyway....

Should I investigate further?... Or is that very feint gas smell normal....

I do have a sensitive nose... !

No! But are you sure it is gas? It might be for example the smell of rubber.

If you can't find it take it to someone with kit to locate it. It might be the pipes have become porous and need replacing.

No it is not normal. The gas bottles and associated pipes, valves and regulator should not emit a smell of lpg, other than when changing / refilling depending on what installation you have. I would get it checked by a fitter if I were you - assuming you still cannot identify the culprit yourself. If you have not already done so, it might be worth fitting new washers in the connectors in case one of those has failed.

I'd say deffo a gas smell.... Been around in the game long enough to detect that smell...

I think I will... Although it's a new van!... But if its not norm... then there is deffo a tiny teensy weeny leak.... somewhere in or around the locker...

Is there a battery under your seat ?

If so it could be Hydrogen Sulphide gas.. similar smell to LPG

if coming from the gas locker, it's strange you can smell it in the van..

if it were a leak in the locker the gas would fall out the vent in the bottom.. not rise to the hab area.. which should be sealed from the gas locker..

is it not coming from within the van.. a cooker control knob, gas manifold valve etc ?

Don't think so.... I can only smell it from driver seat area... Which like i said ia adjacent to locker....

Also... A breeze may make a difference .. To it falling!?...

It depends on your system. I have a Gaslow refillable and there are flat washers in the unions with the bottle valves. If you use Calor, the connectors may be different, I'm not certain. I would check them all.

might fall sideways..

seriously.. go over all the joints , vales and connections again with leak detector liquid.. or water with a small amount of washing up liquid..

it's easy to miss a bubble.. and it only needs the tiniest of leaks for it to smell.

The gas system should be pressured checked at the hab service and any loss of pressure rectified.. .. unless you do it yourself..

Well i've had my nose in the locker ... And not a bean!...

Had my nose around the "offending area"....

I'm coming to think it's just the smell of whatever material is in that area... When the sun gets on it.... Combined with an oversensitive nose... :)

In fairness I thought I had a gas leak at the Stratford Show last year but couldn't find it. So I got Ash to do a test and it came up no problem. Suppose it could have been one of the ideas floated above!

But the important thing is LPG CAN BE DANGEROUS. Get it checked out if you're unsure.

must admit i like bottle top regs . if i think theres a leak i can remove the reg connect a foot pump with a guage and pressure the system .open and close each of the gas lines from the gas manifold .
mind fitting one of these is ideal.
