Hi All,

Just need a quick bit of advice, I wanted a code reader and bought an Autel multi scan MS309 off Fleabay.

Sadly it does not connect properly to my van, wondered if I had a faulty reader (what can you expect for a tenner) but it works perfectly on one of our cars.

I know people use the the same reader on the 2.3 130bhp and Euro 5 engine but possibly mine is older technology.

Has any one got an early 2.2 100bhp engine and a code reader that works.

Sadly people on fleabay know naff all about items they are selling.

Your assistance would be appreciated.

Paul

In which way does it not connect - physically or electronically ?

Is the OBD reader / scanner OBD II ( 2 ) ?

What year is your car ?

Your 2008 MH could well be Euro 4 emissions

The car is 6 months old, and works instantly no problem even reads vin number.

Reader plugs in to van ok, followed instructions ignition off/plug in/turn on ignition and came up with linking error after long time followed instructions turning everything off to reset.

In the end managed to get it to connect by having engine running and after linking error message pressed enter again and it came up with pwm protocol and sat for ages with me occasionally pressing enter and then it connected but said no codes recorded even though my engine management light was on

The van has gone back under warranty as tick over also a bit erratic but would be good to have a reader in the glovebox that works on my van.

As @Techno states, & I agree, any decent OBDII reader should work.
Odd that it works on your newer car but not the MH.

The cheap readers are tremendous value for money and the Torque pro app is cheap too. They work fine and have always allowed me to reset throttle valve and EGR fault codes once the issues were fixed.

The Reader I have is OBD II and my suspicion is the earlier Ducato 2.3 and 3 litre were fully OBD II but I am not sure the 2.2 is which in actual fact is a ford lump refered to as Puma I think. So presumably Euro 4?

Diesel cars in Europe from 2004 had to be compliant with OBD II by law as I understand but have sneaky suspicion this was not quite the case with commercial vehicles.

So I think I need an older style reader.

Hi Andy,

No black smoke and engine pulls like an absolute train considering least powerful. Impressive onboard display using phone but notice you have 3 litre which I think may be more up to date than mine.

Regards Paul

The excellent 2.2 Ford Puma engine was fitted to some MK3 Mondeo's, Land Rovers, & Jaguars amongst others & can be Euro 3 or 4 or 5 & maybe even 6 emissions rated dependent on the year of the vehicle ( My old 05 plate Mondeo 2.2 ST TDCi with the same engine was Euro 3 & OBDII compliant )

Iveco are part owned by FIAT
The engines are Iveco made not Fiat and have the name cast on the head.
If Fiat made it it would be more problems

Also used in Peugeot Boxers so is it then a Peugeot engine

Iveco, an acronym for Industrial Vehicles Corporation, is an Italian industrial vehicle manufacturing company based in Turin, Italy, and entirely controlled by CNH Industrial Group. It designs and builds light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, quarry/construction site vehicles, city and intercity buses and special vehicles for applications such as firefighting, off-road missions, the military and civil defence.

Doesn't look like Fiat have any influence at all on Iveco

It's no coincidence that Iveco & Fiat are both based in Turin & as FIAT part own Iveco there's some FIAT in there somewhere !

'Torque' ELM 327 Bluetooth adaptor plus the torque pro android app works for me.
Recently picked up codes for ABS sensor, four failed glow plugs and inlet tract swirl motor

I also have a Vgate scan 600 hand held scanner which only picks up some engine codes but none of the above.

The ELM cost £7 and the pro app about £3:50.
The Vgate was £30 wasted in comparison.

That doesn't change anything

It tells me there's FIAT in Iveco, they part own the company.

Just like there's a lot of Ford in the newer P.S.A. 2.2 diesel engine.

Thankfully our Peugeot Boxer / Sevel clone has a Ford Puma engine.

Iveco is about as FIAT as a UFI diesel fuel filter
