Elddis 180 step (1 Viewer)

My 2011 Elddis 180 has a basic manual step. I bought the van last year and when taking a look underneath noticed that there is a push button switch that is operated when the step is closed.

There is a bundle of wire attatched to the switch but its not connected to anything. I assume this is for a " step left down " alarm.

Two questions: was this ever fitted as standard? and if so how would I go about reconnecting it?

I drove half way to Devon with the step down in April. So this might be useful.

Sorry we can't help with that directly, but the step on our Eldiss automatically retracts when the ignition is switched to the ''on'' position, from off, prior to starting the engine, - maybe it's worthwhile getting yours wired to do the same ?

No more step down / out whilst driving.

I think you need an electric step with a motor in it to allow that. Yours must have a lux pack fitted. This step is purely manually operated.

I'll have a look to see what they cost, although its probably not worth fitting one.

If you have 'a bundle of wires' sticking out it suggests you already have an electric step?

No it suggests its a budget level motorhome with a manual step that hasn't had the "step out" switch connected. Quite simple to connect but routing the wiring is usually the time consuming part. It simply needs a fused feed from the ignition switch connecting via a buzzer to one side of the switch on the step and the other side of the switch connecting to the chassis.

Thanks Dave. Makes sense. Amazing they dont bother to do that with a buzzer costing around £2.

I'm sure DN is probably correct in his verdict, but could it also be that the m/h was originally fitted with a powered step but may have been replaced with a cheaper version after being damaged?

If that's the case 'a bundle of wires' must mean one. Or two. I assumed a bundle meant a bundle.

No. A manual step is standard on this model. And the wire and button are part of this manual step.

I just thought that the prescence of a button and wiring meant that a sensor had been disconnected. But it appears that they actually sent them out like that.

£2 95db buzzer purchased from ebay. Will probably wire behind the fridge as this has a live 12v feed that is only on when ignition is on. Assume i can run wire from step in via floor vent Another item on the van jobs list. Its a good DIYers van this. ☺
