Heavy duty air compressor on special at Maplins at only £14.99.

I have one of these and it is capable of acheiving the sort of pressures needed in motorhome tyres (up to 140psi). You do need to run the engine while using it if you have it plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.

Defo worth £15 to keep as a back up, but be warned its not really heavy duty, mine burnt out trying to pump a tyre to 65 psi in under a year after approx. 10 uses. A piece of kit that looks similar, weighs about 4 times more comes in its own bag with airline and is allegedly used by professionals is the Ring RAC900, its a lot more though, £75, but worth it when your at the side of the road with a flat tyre and a burnt out inflator!

Not many of us go through tyres as often as you do Simon.
Not sirprised your compressor gave up.

Must admit Ive never used my Maplins compressor in anger, more just to top the pressures up. It does get quite warm when you have to put a few psi in. Consequently, on Simons recommendation I too have purchased the Ring RAC900 and it will be arriving tomorrow. Its down to the old adage 'you get what you pay for'.

Funnily enough though Mike, I was just topping up a tyre when it stopped (switch overheated inside) the others (tyres) were shredded, so no compressor would have sufficed. Serious point though, I would not rely on the Maplin one to get you out of the Merdé!

Just bought a Katsu two cylinder 12 volt compressor from Amazon about £27. Tested it on a trailer tyre to 90psi and worked well. Clips onto a battery as too much draw for a socket. Quite impressed at the value for money.

I bought one when they last had them on offer a few years back. It conked out on the second use. I took it to bits and they are very badly made. I recommend the Ring one.

Bought on less than a year back...

Used it to top up the wife's and youths cars etc ... Maybe 4 or five times... On/off switch has failed... But at least in the on position...

Should dig out the reciept and return it ...
