Getting Better

Have you any first hand knowledge of this one @Techno as I'm looking to do somthing like this for my van...

Is it as simple as connecting it to the batteries..? I can take my van to pieces one day and put it back together the next but I have no confidence with electrics.... (Had to many shocks:eek:)

No but If I needed one just now its worth a punt at that price.
Yes via a suitable fuse and if multiple batteries? the interconnecting cable must be up to it.

Andy , yes i had noticed these but also noticed if there is a problem, have to pay shipping costs too & from
china. Which could be quite expensive,.the other two are uk supplied, probably made in china though.

The sunshine solar one is an extra £12.00 for the remote but does seem to use battery condition.

Do the fans on inverters like this run all the time or only when it's internal temperature demands.. I have a small 400W one and the fan is on all the time and it's quite annoying.

In the description they usually say "intelligent fan" which means it will be temperature sensitive, most of the bigger inverters usually are.

Just an update

Ii actually bought a 2000w inverter from these people .

Used it at newbury show, for 800w microwave, 1500w hairdryer & electronic hair straighteners.

worked without any problems.

Early days yet, but no reason to think we will have problem, the most noticeable thing being the lack of fan noise & heat compared to the sterling inverter we had in old van.

@chippy63 Karl is all still good as far as your newly purchased inverter is concerned, as I'm looking to install one into our motorhome.
Also anyone else , if I get a 2000w inverter and use it to run an appliance that consumes only 1500w , is the other 500w wasted or does it only produce the wattage as per demand upto the max of 2000w ?

If you plug the telly in at home into your 30 amp ring main do you think you are drawing 30 amps or what the telly needs

I also have a third sterling, a 1600 watt pure sign and that was faulty right out of the box but CHARLES said its because I was using the wrong remote  WRONG I bought another and it still squeals like a pig if the remote switch is used. Works OK without the remote but still consigned to the loft.
The one I've been using since was from ebay Germany and no problems but half the price

I've had a 2kw Victron inverter / charger for a while now - great piece of kit.
Supplies all my sockets and kicks in automatically if EHU fails

i notice that most of them inverters do not have them fancy LCD info displays that show battery status etc, are they not important then ?

lol for me i'd worry about draining the battery to much,, but having said that the inverter plus its display would be under our seat along with the battery bank , so it would not be visible, would one of the battery monitors be a good buy in that case is i was worried about taking to much juice ?

@Bart On a serious note..

I have a battery panel volt meter.. not the most accurate, but it does give an indication of the battery(s) state of charge.. .. also an ammeter that shows current flow, out or into the batteries.. that with the volt meter is all I really need..

A battery monitor will (if set up correctly) calculate ampere hours consumed and the state of charge of a battery.

Ampere hours consumed are calculated by integrating the current flowing in or out of the battery

Anybody have either of these inverters,

http://www.sunshinesolar.co.uk/prod...Sine_Wave_Sunshine_Power_Inverter/VP1500.html

Or

http://www.renytek.co.uk/12v-pure-sine-wave-inverters/?Page_ID=3610&refpid=17889&id=39524

Good or bad opinons ?

Just after a pure sine wave inverter for microwave, hairdryer & hair straightners Not going to get a lot
of use, so do not want to spend anymore than a couple hundred quid really.

Karl
I fitted the Sunshine Solar 2000W model with the remote that indicates the load and battery condition.
Very pleased with it as it runs her hair straighteners, the microwave and the coffee machine without any issues (not all together). The remote means that I don't have to open the locker door to operate and combined with @Techno relay units, all power circuits are operational without extension leads or messing about.

Yip i have the standard one built into the control panel in the MH which shows cab & leisure battery voltage & amps in / out , but from what i gather they are as accurate as the water / waste tank sensors....>>> which are shite..

If you want an accurate indication of the state of charge of the battery then take a look at getting a Smartgauge battery monitor http://www.smartgauge.co.uk/smartgauge.html
Does not need constant recalibration unlike in/out amp counters and so easy to fit, no guessing of battery capacity which reduces through the life of the battery, just works like a fuel gauge on your car.
