Just refilled one of my 13kg Gaslow bottles at a motorway services in France - Total cost £12

To buy a similar size refill in UK £38

That's a saving £26 on one bottle !!!

Has anyone worked out the break even point for a refillable system?

I reckon about 10 refills would cover the cost of a Gasit system

Paid 11€ for the 11kg bottle in Benidorm, and that was in the campsite shop where they are not shy in adding a bit of markup.

13kg propane at gooutdoors is £23.62 - probably use 26kg/year.

So £23.62 x 2 =£47.24.
Refillable would cost £24.00

I'm paying a premium of £23.24 for using Calor, certainly for me, little point in changing !

Calor swap £26.25, you sound like my eldest daughter trying to justify a 'necessary' purchase to me o_O

I also have refillables, but did mine purely for convenience not payback

Now that you have raised 'rip off' get off the French motorway, enjoy the journey :)

Getting better month by month.
There is a thread on here where someone worked out how long it takes for Calor to catch up with refillables. I think it works out about 5 - 6 years for me as not only are go outdoors cheaper than most for Calor, I also get extra "Forces" discount, so 6 Kg only works out £16:80. (y) I don’t have a 13 Kg yet, still hoping for a nice hand out, but that would be another good saving there. I can see the advantages for convenience and cost if you go abroad a lot, but not in the UK

So what do the 15k Calor cylinders cost to exchange anyone know? I've just fitted one (previously in garden for BBQ) to go next to my Gaslow for when we head up to Scotland and the Isles in July.

Last time I was there I struggled to get LPG and Calor lite was about as scarce as rocking horse shite!

Flo gas deliver to your house a 11kg bottle for £21.95 , even carry it round to the back garden. A 13kg is just to big to get in for us. If you're a heavy user or struggle with lifting the bottle it makes sense, if you're a light user may be not worth getting refillable set up.

Do you have a "Rental Charge" to pay on your first bottle?

I think it's a deposit on the propane bottle, but not on the butane. You might get a funster who has gone refillable route and let you have a bottle cheaper. We only have one 11kg bottle at present but if another become available will get one for convenience. We have a calor light as reserve at the moment.

I paid £24.99 for a 6kg bottle of calor at the local garage , I was quoted £360 by the gasit guy at Peterborough show ,for two 11kg bottles ,so at those prices I estimate break even is around 16.5 bottles of garage gas
16.5 x24.99 is £412.34 for 99 kg of gas
Gasit system @ 360.00 plus 99 liters of gas at .45 a liter is £44.55 total £404.55

Anyone welcome to shoot holes in my maths:p

you did invite it :)

I think there are more litres than kg's or vice versa, seem to think 6kg is 12 litres

Not sure whether that makes your sums better or worse, just wrong

edit - and your garage is ripping folk off, Calor say £20.25

stick with the convenience benefit, it always works (y)

Possibly but I always thought that the whole metric system was 1kg of gas equals one liter ????

Anyhow I've made my mind up to go refill

yes for rule of thumb one kg 2 litres og gas.
mind a 19kg bottle takes 42 litres easy with no trouble .
i tend to do 2to1 but a friend always waits till the pump switches off .
1kg to 1ltr is for water fuel like petrol etc
