Probably the last year Charlotte will be with us .. yes, sad .. she has grown up and will soon be ploughing her own furrow.. so want to take her somewhere special.. somewhere she wants to go..

She would like.. a beach site on the French Med coast, close to shopping and other facilities..

I have plenty of web sites to look at, Campercontact etc.. looking for personal recommendations , sites you have used.. or know about ..

thanks in anticipation

edit .. we need one that allows dogs ..

We stayed here..

http://www.camping-pansard.com/content/gb/home/1/

..for a week or so in early June about four years ago....not many other campers.

A bit pricey but the Med coast is generally....but right on the sea and an easy walk to some nice restaurants and shops in La Londe..

Wouldn't like to be there if the site was busy though...watch out for French holiday weekends as places like this can go from quiet to full overnight.

We stayed at camping "de la Baie" in Cavalaire-sur-Mer last June. Its a very nice site and just a few minutes from the town and beach. Acsi 2454 if you have the book. The town is lovely but not too hectic and an easy trip to St Tropez, Grimaud etc....

My brother stayed on this site a few years ago - http://www.camping-le-calagogo.fr/

He liked it. I was in Spain at the same time and I popped in to see him. It seemed a nice site with good facilities.

I don't know if it is close to shopping and stuff because we were only there for about 4 hours.

Nice pools but visitors were not allowed to use them ( I did though;))

I should think it's pricey though.

thanks again..

have decided that we won't be booking any sites..

two reasons..

it makes it a schedule .. prefer not to be tied to dates and times ..

second.. it is very expensive .. the average cost of a week on an all singing dancing site in July would set us back €400 - €500

we have found a few sites that don't need booking that are close to the beach.. that don't need a mortgage

Most motorhome unfriendly area we have been to, signs everywhere , no camping cars, and as you say expensive but still one of the best places to go to:)

We also stayed here for a couple of days on the same trip...

http://www.yellohvillage.co.uk/camping/le_brasilia

On the face of it not the sort of site we'd usually choose but it turned out really well...

Huge pitches , excellent facilities , quiet in early June and competitively priced for the area...

And they take dogs.

Nearby Canet was OK too ....

we have thought about that, but not doing that route this year..

As I type Mrs scotjim is researching aires and sites using Campercontact, using a route I drew on a paper map.. .. if I change the route she will not be best pleased..

If you end up in Italy don't know if you'll get into Tuscany but...

... is very different from the norm...and way less kids orientated than it appears on the website.

And by the shores of Lago di Trasimeno..

http://www.campingkursaal.it/campsite-umbria.php

...has the best campsite restaurant we've ever experienced...bar none...a short train ride away from Perugia too.

The two best "new "finds on our trip last year...

Both dog friendly as far as I recall...

Does it have to be French Med Beach?
I am wondering if you should just "suck it up" costwise because it is daughter's choice - perhaps because it's different, not somewhere you'd usually choose or go?

We've tried quite a few Med beaches and weren't really too keen on any of them. A bit too busy and commercialised for us I'm afraid.
There are some really nice beaches in the Vendée and Atlantic coast, they seem much cleaner with similar weather and a little less "kiss me quick" !

This municipal's about 20km from Narbonne.
The town is modest (not very commercial) the beach is pleasant enough and not too busy, with direct access from the site.

As for the site, it's about average municipal standard.
There's no pool and some pitches have no shade but I guess that's reflected in the modest price...

*edit* forgot to mention the aire about 100m from the site, was full when we visited but looked like a good potential stopover (y)

Couldn't agree more.. not a big fan of holiday resorts and kiss me quick either..

we've been going to France since 1997, been on just about every aire on the West Coast, but only a few times to the Med coast..

.. this year we thought we would have a change and go back to the Med.. last time we were there was 2004

nothing is set in concrete .. may even go to the med coast in Spain.. beauty of a motorhome ..

Aug 09 to date 9,000 miles!
There's nowt at Cabanes de Fleury for Charlotte normally - there is now only one small shop which sells bread newspapers and pop and a few other things, buckets and spades type stuff, has a couple of glorified hamburger joints and a couple of bar/restaurants and a few market stalls a couple of days a week - but it heaves every day and night in August with a larger market in the day and live bands etc at night. And a triathlon. We should know, we've been to the aire there every year at various times LOL and have been known to spend a fortnight there on it. Same girl was collecting the money up to last year at least, we have been known to get free jetons for the fresh water, she likes to practice her English. (Oh - but she always swears us to secrecy ......) About a mile and a half to the naturist beach between St Pierre and Cabanes. The Municipal has nothing you want really - it has a laundry room but none of the machines have actually functioned since we've been going. However the showers are free and if you enter via the beach gate ........ There's a Laundry in a Box at the Super U up the back where all the folk off the sites the other side of the Aude go! - so you bung it in, go and do your shop, come back and it's done. Stick it in the drier, have lunch, go back to 'site' LOL

When you say Med coast, do you mean Cote de Azur or Cote Vermile. Of the two I much prefer the Vermile, it's cheaper prettier and the same Med. You also have choice of nipping over the border for a cheap meal or shopping into Spain. From Argeles down to the border there are some super villages and beaches. Have a good trip Jim.

That sounds a really nice site, and if you want a campsite, it looks a very good price for down there.
We are on the last week of our 4 week trip around France and have also played it by ear. We have covered nearly 2000 miles, starting from Calais, over to Brittany and then down to the Vendée, along the Dordogne, up and down the Pyrenees ( ending up a few miles from the Spanish border(, Med coast for a day, Provence, Rhone Alps, Midi Pyrenees, Bordeaux, back up the Vendée to a couple of beaches and back to Brittany for some more beach days. We are going back to the UK on Friday.
We stayed on some fantastic Aires and so far they have cost us €19 in total, we haven't paid a cent for water.
