Hi, after a devastating thatch fire in our row of 3 cottages on the 2nd April we are now homeless,
Living in the motorhome on the driveway until we can work out our next move. Lost everything except the clothes we walked out in and the few things we managed to grab. Slowly getting back to a bit of normality now but has been a hard 2 weeks. It is possible we may full time in van until the cottage is rebuilt, thinking 1 year to 18 months so will be looking at local sites to see if it feasible next week. Things can only get better from now on.

At least you got out safely.
Can't you stay on your driveway? We have been living in our van on the driveway for long periods while we renovate our house in France.
Of course you might need a generator.......

many many years! since I was a kid
so sorry to read about the fire, hope you are back in soon. from experience, being able to live in the motorhome on the drive or garden will help with keeping the builders on track

So sorry to hear about the house- but glad you are ok in yourselves. Thank goodness for M Home and good luck with the re build . We have stayed in our M home/cooked in it when we were having a re furb of the house: but it must be such a shock for you re the fire. Get some counselling as well as some builders quotes, such a shock for you and take care in next few months xxK

That is devastating for you to loose everything, but thank goodness you are safe and unhurt. I hope the rebuild goes ahead soon and you are back in your home.

Sorry for your loss @Frankie . Is everything downstairs a write-off too?

Yeah total loss, bed is now in lounge under burnt beams and thatch. Insurance loss adjusters will not enter for contents as declared unsafe so left to us to itemise and value, bloody nightmare.!!!!

Sorry to hear of your disaster and as it sounds like it will be some time before you are able to return to your home I suggest a call to the insurance loss adjuster before moving into your van. The cost to the insurance company of providing you with furnished temporary accommodation for that period of time can outstrip the actual repairs to the house. A deal should be done before you do anything.

So sorry to hear this.
Dreadful news but as others have said, at least you are all safe. You said row of three thatched cottages, are your neighbours in a similar situation?
Wish you all the best for the future.

Living the dream.
Oh dear, what a nightmare. I can only guess at the heartache you are suffering after losing so much. Good luck with the rebuild.

That's horrific - so very glad you're all OK though. I know the insurance thing will be quite heart-breaking so I hope you'll manage to stay strong through it all.
Plenty of hugs.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
How awful . Wishing you luck and best wishes for getting everything sorted ASAP. At least you've got your van to stay in, at least a bit of normality in your upside down world . X
