Thanks

Evilbay auction motorhomes all the time, don't buy without a close inspection but you can bag a bargain if you take care.

Hi, I have never bought a MH at auction, but I have been to a few.British car auctions at Measham hold MH auctions on a regular basis. The ones I have visited dont seem to be realy cheap compaird to evil bay.The only advantage is that you have a few to view together instead of chasing around the country.

no put some one told me there's a place in London where the dealers put the ones they carnt sell

News to me!

Be warned 'privates' at auctions are like lambs to the slaughter, you need to be very experienced to know what you are buying and whether the actual bids are genuine.

The buyers premiums for non trade buyers are also very high.

Hi, I bought one at auction and had a bargain. New but unfinnished £12,950 6 berth Apollo on a Fiat chassis. They also had a demountable as well new, 1k less. B.C.A. auctions also have one at Bristol I'm told, with quite a few there. The easy way is to ring around like I did, and ask if any are comming in. It worked for me, and a mate was offered one recently with a cheap reserve. (Though they wouldn't give the reserve, they guided him very close.) Been to a few M/H auctions, some beauties, and a few dogs, look carefully.

Hi Blisters,

In all sincerity I was not, just a warning to all Funsters.

I spent 15 years at Blackbushe Auction and other auctions, 3 days a week when I owned a garage in Reading selling specialist cars and 4 x 4's and I know all the tricks the auctions and traders in there get up to.

By all means go and buy, doesn't affect me in any way at all, lets put it this way, I do not and would not buy Motorhomes and Caravans at auctions..............................

I agree with Peter on this one.
In a dealer's yard you have all the time in the world to check & compare vans. In an auction you have to make a pretty quick decision whether to buy or not and it's all too easy to step over your preset cash limit and/or buy a dog.
My business is next to a car auction and some buyers do very well indeed there, but those less knowledgeable can make expensive mistakes.
And motorhomes usually involve a lot more money......

We got super bargain on "Evilbay". Lunar Roadstar. It was a good £10,000 cheaper than the same ones at the dealers. You must be willing to check it over and check it's history etc but there are bargains to be had, especially when there is no reserve.

I was a car trader for a few years myself and seen lots of MH at BCA, usually Brighouse in west yorks.
I have only once been tempted into buying one but it was only because I knew the seller and had bid him a couple of times as he was wanting the room for more cars.

He had it broken into (through the skylight) and so he put it in the auction.........get this (remember this was 1990) I bought a1981 (W) Ford econoline 24ft Delta with LPG conv for £6,750.00.

I used it and minted it up, it sold for £14,000 a year later.............Bargin! :thumb:

Same as John said tho, If your a private bod and inexperienced with auctions...........your like a lamb to the slaughter..........so beware! :winky:

i reckon, due to the economic climate, the majority of auction house (and i dont mean ebay) motorhomes will be financial repo's and put up by the finance house, the condition may depend on the reason for the repo.

buy one and know you cant afford the payments.....treat it like sh(t 'cos you know its going back.

buy one and genuinly cant afford the repayments but really wanted the van so looked after it well.

which would you choose?

Just a thought. I remember the TV pictures of Marquis in Tewksbury which showed half submerged MHs. I'm not suggesting that Marquis are still trying to sell them - they probably had an insurance pay-out.
BUT the MHs are probably still in the system somewhere! And there may well be lots of other water damaged vehicles about.
Buyer beware.

In 2005 I had a MH to sell. No response to adverts etc. It was difficult to sell because although it was a professional conversion, Devon Motorhomes in Co Durham, it was a combination of features from 2 models and was LHD.

Contacted Measham & they told me to expect £8,000 at auction. I was advertising it for £10,000.

It was bought by a private buyer for £8,000. The dealers dropped out from £6,000 on.

I was happy.
