Has any one fitted a silencer to the exhaust in their WEBASTO heater on their van? Does it make much difference to the noise ? What with a sliding door and a diesel heater don't think i will have close neighbours on site,,BUSBY.:):)

Not long enough, but a little common sense helps..........
Silencer don't know never looked, problems using it never all over EU with vans right next to me in Aires. Great bit of kit.

My webasto is very quiet but not sure if it has a separate silencer added, if it has one it is built in. I can't see one on the exhaust pipe. The Eberspacher is the one which needs the silencer.

Not a Webasto but our Eberspacher had silencer on exhaust & inlet, made a big difference.

Virtually the same both need silencers from my experience in the paddock where 90% of race vans have one or the other (y)

I have put silencers on both the inlet and exhaust on the Eberspacher on my T4 and they cut the noise down. When it initially fires up, you can hear it, but once up to temperature it is very quiet

Cheers

Fitted a silencer on my Eberspacher exhaust, made a little bit of difference, prob. need one on inlet to complete the job. Cheap on Ebay if you don't buy it with their clips. Cheers

It's a bit shoddy if an inlet muffler and exhaust silencer weren't fitted at manufacture IMO.
Ours is no noisier than a Truma Combi.

My Webasto is very quiet, not had it serviced since new 5 years ago. I must be one of the lucky ones ? Love it to bits. Cant hear it from inside the van and have to stick my head below van to hear it running. Lucky old me.

Bloody hell sliding door and a diesel heater what a flaming racket.:Eeek:

Only joking Enjoy.

We've considered fitting a diesel heater a few times especially when we first started using the van for skiing. It would eliminate the danger of running out of gas but our van is so well insulated even at temps well below minus 15c we can easily last a month with 2x13kg Alugas and a spare 12kg calor.

Is this little thing on the exhaust of my Webasto Air Top the silencer, like the boxes you get on cars?

What does an "inlet muffler" look like?

(Hmmm....maybe I should put some Hammerite or something on that bracket!)

There are a few different shapes - see I used a Webasto one as it was half the price of the Ebersparcher one

Thanks...I'll have to crawl underneath/inside the van to see if I've got something like that.

With my bottom-of-the-range Air Top 2000ST it's pretty noisy inside when kicking in and outside when it's running the exhaust seems to be the noisiest bit. Sometimes it seems OK, other times I think "hmm...not sure I want to run this too long or late".

I guess they all generate a fair bit of noise, but it's the installation that's the important bit. The Air Top 2000ST is usually in trucks, so maybe there the heater is further away from the occupant and other vehicles than in my campervan, and there's better sound insulation.
