Plan A
Don't get stuck on a Temporary Holiday Site field.
- Muddy entrance successfully negotiated.
- Climb up the (greater than mild) gradient successfully achieved.
- Reverse into the approximate position in preparation for reversing onto planks successfully achieved.
- Attempt to reverse onto planks not achieved.
- Attempt to creep forward for second attempt at reversing onto planks not achieved.
- Time for Plan B.

Plan B
Fit snow chains and resolve issue.
- Snow chains fitted but neither forward nor reverse motion achieved.
- Time for Plan C

Plan C
Use front drive wheels as a winch.
- Source 'suitable' (haha!) webbing (awning tie down webbing found in garage)
- Attach webbing through spokes of alloys (one for each wheel).
- Stake other end of each webbing strap directly in front of each wheel.
- Apply just enough torque to break each webbing strap!
- Time for Plan D

Plan D
Look for a tow.
- Speak with the Warden to identify a willing tugger.
- Hitch up and get towed forward.
- Job done!

There's a first time for everything and today was it for getting our 5 tonne tag axle stuck in a wet field. Having spent three nights on a different THS (successfully negotiating a muddy entrance and damp field (subsequently observing a much smaller motorhome spinning its wheels on a section of track that we had successfully negotiated)), we decided to move to another site. The ground at the new THS looked innocuous enough but was, evidently, a little soft!

So easy to get stuck, especially at this time of year before the ground has dried out after winter.

Our National Trust episode is the only time we've needed a tow... so far!

Nah! You're just trading one problem for another - you'd never get under low bridges!

And then there's the altitude sickness when sleeping in the bunks!

Edited: to change from "killing in the bunks" - where did that come from!

I did float the idea of using a 12volt quad winch, available off ebay etc. That is quite adequate to pull a MH off a muddy field and weigh not a lot. Easy to make a bracket to go under the front bumper. a tree or ground anchor will take the pull. Nobody seemd to take to the idea but it would certainly make you more independent and could maybe save a life as a first responder at an accident with a trapped person in crush situation.

I'm just disappointed that my webbing wasn't strong enough as I thought Plan C (using the drive wheels as a winch drum) was a sure fire winner.

Whilst not wishing to find myself in the same predicament again, perhaps next time!
