Is there a reason why you only get plain plastic sockets in motor homes, and not nice metal / colored ones ? Thinking of putting new switched ones in, but are they allowed with metal fascias ?

Providing they're properly earthed I don't see why not.

I'm guessing the O.E.M. is plastic due to cost ?

We've had two extra sockets installed by our fully qualified sparky, one was metal, he had no issues with fitting it in a MH

make sure you earth them proper, and as for the usb ones, be careful what you buy.
dont always charge some phones and things

The range of fittings like Berker on European vans are designed to fit in small spaces and complement each other
So the 230 volt skts are reduced to the dimensions of the 12 volt switches and other accessories
As already said it is not a safety issue only one of practicality and aesthetics

Here a typical arrangement in a corner of the kitchen workspace
I have 2 uk skts 1 schuko 1 12 volt skt
1 light switch and they simply could not be replaced with domestic fittings

In my opinion, brass, chrome or brushed aluminium sockets and switchs look tacky whether in the home or motorhome.

Best left in posh manor houses and the like where they suit the surroundings and decor.
