The tank is under the floor with no access. Smells coming through basin and sink plug holes. Any recommendations please as to best cleaning solution to use bearing in mind I can only pour it down the sink.

We tried Coke and soda crystals with little effect, then we tried Dish'n'treat which is a special washing up liquid which, when used once a day keeps pipes and tank smelling sweet. It dissolves and prevents grease build up and kills bacteria.

I use a small amount of the elsan stuff into the waste pipes via sink holes each time empty out & fill up the fresh water. That seems to keep smell bugs away whilst travelling.

In between travels leave waste open so it drys.

If already smelly cheap Coke does work.

We use the cheap coke method and find it works as well as the proprietary cleaners.

The cheap coke from any supermarket. For some reason the one with sugar in seems to work better than the diet version. Bung in about 6L putting it down all the drains, nice bumpy drive, leave for a few hours and drain. Gets all sort of muck out.

Urban drives are ideal for the cheap coke treatment, on roads you normally avoid cos of all the speed bumps!!

Thanks all. It will initially be a cheap coke treatment. No problem finding a bumpy road, around here it would be hard to find a smooth one!. Then regular Dish'n'treat will be the plan.

Once you've started using the Dish'n'treat you'll ever have a smelly tank again - sorted !

Yes you use it just like washing up liquid
We didn’t need to use it every wash - we found that just once a day was sufficient
Quite expensive for a washing up liquid but if it stops that pong when we dump it will be worth it.
I give our grey tank a good jetting out with a hose a couple of times a year but it soon starts to pong again.
About to order some from Amazon.

What! - you wash up more than once a day??

It seems to me that even after you've cleaned it, once you've half filled it again it stinks just the same. Ongoing daily treatment might be the way?

Thanks for that.

Well I've just bought some from Ebay £9.99 litre ---- and this weeks trip to Scotland should be a good test.

I've put it in the washing up liquid dispenser so it will dose the tank when we wash up. I'll let you know how we go on.

We use a couple of litres of pure orange juice... Pour it in before a trip... By the time we get where we are going it has all sloshed around and have no smells at all
