Hi

We have a B & B in SE Spain and are selling it and going to buy a motorhome to live in. We are then going to travel around Europe. We have had so many guests who have seen so much of Spain, Portugal and France and we feel that life is too short and we are going to make the most of travelling in a motorhome.

Any comments or advice or pointers from anybody would be greatly appreciated. We are getting a motorhome in Spain but have not decided on model etc. but guess it will be fairly large as we will be living it for at least 9 months of the year.

Looking forward to hearing from anybody out there who feels they can pass on their experience.

Kind regards

Henry & Min

welcome to fun Henry and Min
when it comes to choosing your motorhome ,get the layout right at first ,if theres a fixed bed,lie on and and check it for size, also try the shower to see if you can stand up in it and the toilet, try it in the meditation position .
If you can,get yourselves to a motorhome show and look at as mant MH,s as is possible.
Kes and i spent the best part of a year looking,we worked out what layout that we wanted and then at the NEC show walked into a Rapido A class and we are both very much in tune with each other ,we thought, this is the one we want
Take your time and get it right ,also if you passed your test before 1999 you can drive up to 7.5 tons

Hi Laird of Dunstan

Many thanks for your prompt and informative reply. Yes we passed our test well before 1999 but guess something on the 7 ton scale would be very heavy on fuel? - not that we are foolish enough to think we will get car consumption in any MH. Also if it is very big it is more difficult to park up etc. but as you said we will look at all options. Many thanks again for your advice.

Hi Judith

Many thanks for your advice. Yes we are going to have a Spanish registered MH. Problem is we have to sell our house first but hopefully it will be soon. Kind regards

Hi guys
I think that its about compromises ,i was attracted to PVC type van which are the easiest to park and give the best fuel consumption but i cant stand up straight in one,we also looked at the coach built type but in the end we decided on an 8 meter long A class, ive driven 18 ton HGV,s through town centers so the size is less of a nono for me, you need to go out and have a good look at the MH,s available ,the big american ones do not do well on mpg,the A class tend to be around the mid 20,s ,the coach builts vary depending on their aerodynamic shape

We have looked at some but will be as you advise be looking at many more before we decide. American and very large ones are not going to be our choice due to the town and parking issues. Problem living in Spain is there are very few shows and choice in comparison to the UK. Still might look at getting one in Germany and importing it but the Spanish do like their paperwork so will see!!! Thanks again

Many thanks for your comments. The issue here in Spain is there are not many dealers (and the variety and prices reflect this as well) and also that is why were are also open to importing one into Spain - but that is not as easy as importing into the UK. Even issues like insurance are difficult as there are very few insurance companies that will insure a MH - and the premium shows in that fact. Still onwards and upwards - we will get there. Thanks again.

There are a few FUNsters in the Murcia region and I'm sure all of us will be happy to give you local (Spanish info etc) advice.

Hope you get on the road soon.

Many thanks for your offer of help. We are very much looking forward to getting in the road. As you are aware there are very few dealers in our neck of the woods but will view the ones that we find on the manufacturers web site. We have plenty of questions but don't want to fill up this forum with what could be silly questions. Thanks again

Hi & welcome .
Try Leo down at Hispavan at Vera. (Antas Industrial estate Right on autovia exit)

http://www.hispavan.com/

He does turn stuff over quite quickly . Is decent to deal with, will attempt to locate what you are looking for & imports from abroad. He also does all the importation on his own stuff but will also re-register for customers as well. Worth having a chat with.

There is a big dealer at Torres de Cotillas,
http://www.caravanasmurcia.com/
Used them for spares for a friends Hymer & have a large stock.
Then there is :
http://www.caravanaslorca.es/
my local one. Very helpful although tends not to have a lot of MH stock at times.

There are others that people have used up Elche /Alicante way & I'll leave them to suggest/post details.
