having spent a while living in north america I am well aware what a RV is , or so I thought until I joined this site

A class ...as here
B class .....van conversion
C class ..... luton/cab over
trailer ...... caravan
toy haulers .. half motorhome , half garage
5th wheel ...as here

so if you talk to someone there is a simple terminology

but here I see people say they have an RV ...... if we are for some reason going to use american terminology [ not clear to me why ] , shouldn't we say which of the above we mean ...it would clarify [ at least to me ] what we are talking about as all the above are recreational vehicles are they not?

'We' use RV to differentiate between American motorhomes and European motorhomes generally, don't ask me why, I don't really know, ie you're not wrong???

A is a full body + cab built on a bare chassis
B ?
C has the original makers cab and then custom body
RV big Yank with lots of cubes.
Then we have PVC - Panel Van Conversion - keep van body, so narrower than C

I take anyone saying an RV as an American unit of some kind.
Motorhome, campervan etc i take as been a Eurobox of some kind.

And the unenlightened call ALL American A class Winnebago..

I've lost count on the number of strangers who say.. "Oh , just love your Winnebago" ... got tired of explaining so now I just nod my head in agreement ..

To add to the confusion, we now have two new classes B+ and C+, and toy hauler travel trailers ..

but what's in a name .. It's a VAN with windows.. the rest is just value added snobbery ..

PS

I have an RV :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I have an RV, too - but to me it is simply described as: "A BLOODY GREAT HOLE IN MY WALLET!"

You forgot the slide-camper (his real name in USA) or truck-camper (the usual name in USA) as mine ! Slide camper that your professionals call : "demountable" ! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

in good French : cellule amovible ("cellule" is also the term for the room of prisoners in prison ! "Amovible = removable):Doh:

And just to add to the confusion, if like me, you are a Hymer owner, then your B Klasse is an A class!

(Perhaps we had better leave out reference to Alcoves and Semi-Integrated? Also Hymer / German motorhome terms.)
