Can anyone tell me how to get the rectangular chrome surround off the Carthago Switches and Sockets? I want to change one of my 12v sockets for a different type.

Do they use Berker ones similar to this?

If so the frame just (carefully) unclips and pulls off.

The main UK agent for them is Alan Butcher Components http://www.abcomponents.co.uk if you struggle to get what you need from the usual caravan stores. They're very helpful (y)

At present near the from we have a 12v socket that is of no use to man nor beast. I want to change it for a twin USB socket and yes I think they are from the range you suggest NN

Also very expensive.
If you have the Hella din type 12 volt socket you can remove the electrical parts and drill it out to take a twin USB off ebay for only a few £££££

Haven't seen a price for that particular part but when I bought some extra sockets they weren't too bad. About a fiver from memory.

The hinged chrome cover on the other hand was dearer but still not scary. Maybe £12 or so but I can't remember for sure.

Here is one that some enterprising seller has already converted but a fraction of that to do your own

Thanks Nick. They also do a twin with two outputs 2.1 and 1.0 amp which is what I'm after. Around £15-£20. It should be a simple swap for the other socket if I can get it off.

I suspect all your switches and sockets (12V and 240V) are the same as on my Hymer - look at this ebay ad to see. If so it is made by CBE. Suggest you Google them and contact their support department.

A single 13A socket is £12 quid from there.

I paid £5.22 for the same (y) Ebay isn't always best. In this case I believe that the seller would have had to source it from Alan Butcher to start with.

EDIT: Yes I know I paid VAT on top but it's still a lot cheaper.

He wants USB Nick

I know he does. I was just pointing out that if one component is twice as expensive from that eBay seller then theres every chance they all are.

That's almost certainly going to be the cheapest way to do the job as long as it sits back far enough so you can get the chrome cover back on afterwards

Sorry but there is no comparison between the price of a 230 volt and a USB
I paid £26 4 yrs ago and they're shite

That's the point I'm trying to make and you seem determined to ignore.

The ebay sellers are charging twice as much as the main UK agent for Berker.

If they are charging £12 for a £5 component what makes you think that the one they want £40 for won't be £20 or less from AB?

I would get a quote from them just to prove the point but it will take a couple of days and by that point we will have all moved on to something else (y)

I'm not ignoring your point Nick I just know that the price of their USB is very much higher than their 230 volt no matter where from

This company was recommended to me for Berker and even they are £36 plus postage. I do look forwards to a quote out of interest (y)
