How do I get rid of the alerts for new threads being started which make it almost impossible to find the alerts I might actually be interested in

I'm sure you will find it if you click on your user name at the top of the page then go to preferences

I've just checked my alert preferences and can't find any setting which creates an alert when a new thread is started.

There are are settings about watched threads but these are generally ones you have posted something on.

There is a link in the top menu for "watched forums" which will create an alert, perhaps the OP could click on that and see what it shows. If it lists lots of forums they can be "unwatched".

My guess is you must be 'watching' some threads, then you get an alert for every reply

Or so I thought, I thought from your thread title you might be raising a query I have, where I don't get all of my alerts in that example, when watching a thread, particularly when it is one I have started, I like to read and acknowledge all replies. Sometimes I get an alert of a new post and actually find several earlier posts when I open the thread that I have not had alerts for??

Sorry but almost if not all the alerts I get are for new threads being started. I have searched through the site and so far can't find any way of switching it off.

I don't think it is possible to get alerts for all new threads, that would be thousands .

Do you mean by email? or have you selected SPY option that shows each post live as it happens?

Well I do and the shear volume effectively makes the service useless because anything of interest is lost in the mass of new threads. Thank god it is not emails or it would really drive one round the twist

You can't get an alert for 'newly created' threads but you CAN get an alert for a new posting on a thread that you've visited if you have that option selected in your alert preferences.

What can you see if you click "watched forums"? This should be in the second row at the top but you may have to click the"..." to see it. Does it list any forums?

They all seem to be from one forum - motorhome chat. Check as per my suggestion you are not watching it.

Correct. You are not watching any "Threads" But you were watching the Motorhome Chat forum. However, you are not doing so anymore as I've unwatched it for you, so the alerts should cease as of now. Let me know if you have further problems Cheers (y)
