Last year we attended a rally at one of the Victorian Forts that overlook Portsmouth.
On Portsdown Hill Road there is a 24hrs Burger joint named Micks Monster Burgers. It has a huge car park that isn't a P&D. We went out for the day in the 'van and spent an hour looking over the city.
It occurred to us at the time that it would be just the thing if you didn't want to drive thru the night to home.

I seem to recall reading on this forum that some have spent the night at Port Solent. Lots of parking.

Rear of Cascades shopping centre is a large car park.
No height barrier at the roundabout entrance.

The real beauty of Port Solent apart from the fact that I have a house there is that many of the boat owners sleep aboard their boats when they are out of the water being worked on and some have MoHo's for exactly the same reason. There are toilets and fresh water but no Black waste disposal.

Another point is park near the boats out of the water and you have security guards walking around through the night, DON'T park near the houses as you're more likely to be moved on.

I'll post a screen shot picture.

Getting better month by month.
Whale Island Way. Just leave the ferry and dont hit the Motorway but head off towards HMS Excellent / Whale Island and park up in car park. PO2 8EW or 50.815744 - 1.090793

I think the nearest camp site, if that is what you want to use, will be at Titchfield, Ā£10 a night, but no showers or toilets. I think it is used by Caravan Club for occasional rallies.

Just found the web site - droveleacaravans.co.uk - found it on UKCampSite

You can stay at the port itself without any problem!
You will need to leave the port onto the roundabout, go round it, and back into the entrance as if you were departing.
Park up close to the fence and no one will bother you, security will assume you are getting a ferry next morning.
To depart, do a U turn and exit the way you cam in
Hope that helps.

And if you want a Full Facilities. Rooksbury Park CC Site is less than 1/2 an Hour away and reasonably close to the M3. 50.90614, -1.153735

We use(d) it quite a bit to visit friends in Gosport.

Tried that in October, and got told at 1.30am that I could NOT, they had seen I had been there since 9.45pm and security fella, nicely, said I had to go!

Another vote for Port Solent, as Popeye says park up near the boats, I often see MHs parked up there when passing that way.

Never had a problem either. Once arrived at 4:30pm for an 11:00am ferry. Security did have a word with me but I just smiled and they said I was OK
I have stopped at the port at least 6 times now.

I would write to Brittany Ferries and ask - we have always found them a "can do" attitude company. (y):)

I was there in December and saw a motorhomer walking into the harbour with a cassette from where we were all parked and it appeared to be lighter when they returned šŸ˜. So hopefully they found an official place to empty.
That was at an entrance at the far end of the carpark to the left of the sports centre.

Remember wherever you go for an overnight stay, if you are over 3500k, donā€™t stray into the clean air zone areas of Portsmouth, or it will cost you.

The area arrowed in Popeye's pic is unsuitable in the winter months as it usually packed solid with laid-up boats. You can find a bit of space in the bottom left hand corner of his pic along the sea wall. There's roundabout at the far end for turning round.
