Good morning all.
just been browsing the web to get some idea's on a future trip next year.
came across this site Escorted Motorhome Tours: Page by GB Privilege what do you think?.
with living on the island of Jersey the only way off is by using Condor ferries to St Malo or the uk with our M/H of course and it is very pricey roughly £250 return to St malo(only 1 hour on the cat) and £525.00 to the uk return.
so i am planning a trip for next year but have no idea where to go once in France.would like to end up in italy so any help would be great.
regards.

Hello Col, have you thought of a 1 way ticket to St Malo in the meantime search the web for someone who lives near there who may let you park it there untill your next trip ?.
I was thinking of coming to Jersey in my m/h but at those prices i think go on foot + hire a car when there.
Good luck with your trip.

Pricey ?

PRICEY ?

Looks extortion to me.

Not only that it ruins the whole idea of FREEDOM that a motorhome gives you.

Having said this, we did so an escorted tour of Morocco this year and it did work well though we did rebel and shift the schedule a bit. Mind you it was nothing like those prices.

Just do it. You can be in Italy in 2 days if you want. Get chatting here and we'll sort you out a good route.

£250 or £8000 - are you mad !!!! Take the worst case of £30 a night average for the campsites and see what I mean.

Yes indeed, I agree.. but bear in mind it includes hire of a van .. but still extortion !

No need for a Tour Guide in France, it is THE most welcoming and friendliest of countries for motorhoming, buy the Aires guide with over 3,000 locations, many free, others only a few euro, you will be spoiled for choice, follow your nose and discover the real France..

Could agree more (you could buy a cheap motorhome for that and sell it at the end, you'll see more on your own to rather than being on a strict schedule.

Well if I read the blurb properly and I only browsed it , you are getting a rented Motor home in the deal, and its not cheap to hire Motor homes, I would have thought for any first timers it would be a bit daunting driving a hired Motor home in France for the first time, If , as I believe you have a motor home, why hire one ?.it is expensive to go on guided tours ,they are running a business and their first priority is their profit ,which you will be paying. They have given details of their itinary so you could follow that loosely solo if you wanted to. The problem for you will always be that you are living on an island as we are here in England and getting off that Island to mainland Europe will always be expensive.::bigsmile:::bigsmile:

Hi,

I have been looking at some of the other trips they offer and while they seem very expensive to me, some of them are fully booked, and I must admit the one to Greece did look very interesting albeit out of my price range, but for some people the security of the organization and being with a group are worth a great deal.

Perhaps we should offer something similar with the wealth of knowledge we have at our disposal on this web site I'm sure we could put some very very interesting trips together and perhaps help Jim with the running costs of the site.

What do you think,

I personally have no knowledge of the company and prefer to be solo travellers.

We did meet a couple who had been on a number of trips with GB Privelege and intended to go on more. They spoke very highly of them. The organisation was said to be first rate and my impression was they added value at stopovers with local experts in archeology, history, flaura and fauna and suchlike. The couple also enjoyed the company of their fellow travellers.

It meant they hit the ground running when they got somewhere and weren't having to constantly study the guidebooks and they have a ready-made circle of people for social events.

It wouldn't be for us - we would find it claustrophobic and restricting, but some people prefer to do it this way. If it gets them out using their motorhomes then that's great.

Wow! it's not pricey but more like robbery. I tell you what, I will personally drive my van to france and let you have it for a month with my Sat nav with all aires on it and places to see for that price. Hec I will even drive it for you for the 7K. :ROFLMAO:

I think for getting your van off the island I would think about storing it on the mainland. You could then cross over and have fun in the UK or France for the price of a boat crossing.

I was born within the smell of the Irwell then moved to the smell of the Ship Canal and on to the small of Trafford Park. Probably explains a lot about me. Eee by gum, Trafford Park was The Place in the world's engineering in those days.

Oh we all felt like that for the first few days. We're only 2 years into MHing. Once you've emptied the toilet a few times you can consider yourself a pro, though I don't think emptying the toilet ever gets something to look forward to, unless it's full and you come across an emptying point with your legs crossed.

As others have said, you just cannot go wrong learning in France. But pencil in Camping Butterfly, Peshiera del Garda. Easy to get to, stop there a few days, take a boat up the lake and you will surely fall in love with Italy.

The idea of storing in St Malo is just pure brilliance. Just take it home once a year for MOT etc.

Hi,

I think there are a lot of motorhomers out there that would be very interested in joining an organised tour, if you look at the interest shown in some/most of the meets and the thread regarding Poland for 2010, to name just a few.

I think the biggest problem is getting somone to take the initative and start the planning, I am willing to help if that starts the ball rolling, perhaps we could temp "Scotjimland" to pospone their retirement from motorhomeing and become our guide.

I am willing to help,
