Came back to Totana yesterday and said to Martin that we should soon be visited by the Great Spotted Cuckoos. Within 10 minutes Martin came into the house and said "they're here".

Any " twitchers" amongst you look out for them in southern Spain now.

In several places in Spain we have heard what sounded like a horse neighing, or a hyena laughing. The Green Woodpecker. Never heard it in the UK.

We get them here in Norfolk.

The first time we heard it was at the Camperstop at Totana a couple of years ago. We thought: "that horse is making a lot of noise - and it goes on all day". And very loud. Eventually we twigged, and found on the internet. Never seen one yet, though we hear them all the time while we're out walking in the Sierra Nevada where we are now.
