Hi, last Sept i bought a 1995 Fiat Ducato m/h i had to have 2 recon gearboxes, i never even got to use the damn thing just driving between garage + home (110 round trip 3 times). After legal advice i ended up taking it back to the garage i bought it from + got a newer different m/h. I have since on my travels met the new owner of my old m/h he has also had 2 recon gearboxes fitted by a different garage + he still has the problem, he says he's off to seek legal advice. The fiat forum was full of people with the same problem.

Where in Jersey do you live?, i worked there 5 seasons from 1979 - 84, i worked at the Barra Hotel, Casablanca Hotel + the Jolly Roger cafe/gift shop St Brelades, i had a great time.

Good luck with your gearbox, hope you're soon mobile.

i was night porter at the Casablanca, did you sleep in the laundry room also?. Was Peter + Karen the managers then ? + did a customer named Derek a friend or the owners (think he was called Peter Green) call in for a few beers? his party trick was to put his plonker on the bar regardless of who was there, and believe me it had to be a "Big Un" to reach the bar lol.

I had a 91 Petrol Kon-Tiki on a Ducato base and the gear-linkage on this RHD 'Eurovan' was very poor.

Fortunately, at the time, there was an guy who specialised in supplying/fitting a re-engineered 'double bobble link' of his own design that completely cured the sloppy gearchange that made finding the right gear (or any) a chore.

Don't know if he is still around but MMM library may come up with something.

Soon after buying my M/H in 2000 I had difficulty engaging reverse, especially when the engine was hot, Several times I had to wait 10 minutes or so for it to cool down a bit so I could complete the move. Anyway I took it into the local Fiat dealer and he made a slight adjustment to the linkage, and then greased it well. I have never had trouble since. He said it was a fairly common problem as the linkage tended to wear with use unless it was kept well lubricated.

Hi Top

The people that seem to know the older Fiats well are:-

Delfin Designs - Motorhome and Camper Sales, Spares, Accessories and Repair (Powered by CubeCart)

I think they are still in busines, they were not good at answering emails dont know if this is still so.
They do a modified gear linkage developed by themselves, I think they only sell on a fitted basis, but worth a try.

Dave:thumb::thumb:

This is the guy that fitted mine.

Only difference is that fifeteen years ago fitted price was about £75 - now £250............that's inflation for you!

Great product though.
