Good evening to you all, We don't have a tv in our motorhome and find the price of 12v ones expensive, our plan is to use our laptops to watch tv etc connected to the internet on 240v when hooked up only, We have spent an hour in EE shop today and have decided on a 24 month contract with 50Gb for £27.50 per month, The deal is not done yet so advice would be good. steve and nade.

Quite expensive as I'm paying £13 for unlimited data (no longer available). But 50GB sounds plenty for watching TV.

It will cost you a fortune. A netflix stream for instance at Normal definition will use between .5-1GB for an hour. Your 50Gb would allow you to watch 50 programs over the month. That is less than 2 programs a night. My guess is that it may use a bit more than this though. BBC iplayer is a bit better in that it uses about 500Mb per hour normal def.

Also worth noting that in all the campsites I stop at only 1 has good enough 3G or 4G to watch TV reliably.

The better options would be to buy box sets off ebay/amazon. Rip them to your computer. ( you could sell the DVD's at this point if you don't mind breaking the law)

Or you can do what I do. I try to pick sites with Wifi. However this won't work on large sites as their connection is shared across lots of people and may have restrictions in place. But small CL's allow this providing you don't abuse it.

A mix of ripping and wifi sites is my routines these days.

Don't understand this , you can get a 12 volt tv for less than 4 months on this contract , in fact if you look at TVs in currys or wherever most are 12 volt with transformers, but for gods sake how important is watching tv that you are willing to pay out £27.50 every month when you might only need it every so often.(n)

I do like a bit of TV (especially when there is a rugby match on) and I do have one in the van but I wouldn't pay that much extra per month to get that - especially when I am in the van as I am generally do something else. each to his/her own though.

We have EE mobile broadband, but on PAYG, meaning we can top it up when required, I also have an unlocked 4G router with high gain aerials, even so, there are places we stay where I struggle to get even a 3G signal. I have modified the router so it runs off of 12v (using stuff purchased from Maplins) we also have a 12v Cello TV. I have modified a Western Digital NAS (Maplins again) drive that has around 1,000 DVD's ripped to it, so we never really need to stream movies. From time to time my daughter does however stream netflix, and it totally kills the data allowance.
You'd be much better with a 12v telly and save yourself £27.50 per month, get a PAYG if you need it, the service is quite good.

I know things have changed since 2007/8, BUT. I have a 12V T-V which I paid £120 for (NEW), I connect it to a Satellite dish, (Aldi £60) complete with 12V Satellite receiver box and a case to Carry it all!. I can get full "Freesat" T-V all over the UK and down into France.

All for a "one off" £180 investment (plus a one off fee of £20 to use Sky).

So £200-00 gets you t-v forever. (well until they change the rules anyway)

+1 on what @davanne said, we got our 12v TV from someone like this off of ebay. Even though the brand says generic, these guys go around buying bankrupt stock, and knocking it out cheap. Ours was a Cello when we opened the box! Bloody happy I was I can tell you :D

buy an ordinary TV/DVD combo put it through an inverter when not on hook up
Or, as has been stated a few times, most LCD/LED TV's are in fact 12v with a 240v transformer, so buy the telly, and then go to Maplins and buy the 12v plug :D

BTW. I also have and Older (non Digital) flat-screen t-v which was "resting" so i bought one of these :- Broken Link Removed

It is now a digital T-V!! albeit not 12V. But a small Inverter would cure that?

I have mentioned this before, we use my TV recorder, fill it up with all our favourite programs, maximum 150 hours. We then run it to existing camper TV through inverter with scart lead.... Sorted, Bobs your auntie (y)

No I don't understand it either, any more than I understand people paying £60 a month for Sky.

Is that how much it is:( never been inclined to find out, all sky sport is free on kodi, I suppose the rest of sky is too if you can be bothered to find it(y)
