About to start!
Does anyone know if there is a municipal campsite at St Valery? We're looking for something quiet and low key.

Looks great. Being complete beginners we're not sure whether or not we'll need to book somewhere in advance as it's Easter.what do you think?

Unless you are desperate for facilities the Aire at Vallery is fantastic and the town is lovely, very interesting. You can get the train to Crotoy which is the other side of the bay.

Not a recommendation but would avoid Domaine De Drancourt if you want peace and quiet. It's a big site but they have problems with groups and private parties disturbing the whole campsite for everyone and this was out of season.

When cycling around we did see plenty of smaller sites such as Le Picardy down by the canal but have no experience of it.

We have stayed at Les Aubepines which is across the estuary in Le Crotoy and would recommend that one also.

I agree the Aire is lovely if you just want basic facilities, its quite a large space with vans coming and going daily and so I expect you would always find a space. Nice cycle routes in that area all clearly marked, market in the town ( I think) on a Sunday, lots of things to see and do.

We stayed at the big site a few years ago, it was fine. Lovely little town.

There is a list of municipal sites in France here. We have never stayed on the St Valery aire but we have on many others and almost always found them to be fine so I would recommend aires every time.

As with most popular Aires timing your arrival for early afternoon will always secure a parking spot , it is those who leave it late or too early even that struggle

I am thinking of going to the aire at St Valery in a few weeks but I have heard that the payment machine can be quite difficult. I wondered if anyone had an simple instructions?

Drive up to the barrier and press the button for a ticket

Before you leave take the ticket to the machine and pay WAIT for the ticket to be dispensed back to you or a new one

Drive up to the exit barrier and submit the paid ticket be sure to be close enough to the barrier.

After payment you have 30 minutes to leave

Problems arise mainly from people including French not being close enough to the barrier OR they lose their entry ticket. There is a phone number on the machine in case of problems

Thanks for the instructions, on previous trips to the area I have stayed at Le Crotoy and then cycled to St Valery, I fancied a change this time.

Much better as it is pebble gravel never gets muddy and has TWO service areas also more secure
I always try park side on to a grass part and get the table and chairs out and if nice the bbq
