Mazda Bongo, any views? (1 Viewer)

All the talk about Motorhome Fun and trips away must have rubbed off on the family.
A relative is thinking of dipping her toes in the water and getting a second hand Bongo.
It's small enough for her to drive and park at home.
Has anyone got any experience of them?
Pro's Con's?
What should she look out for in a second hand Bongo?
She is very excited and has started to save up.
I don't want to dampen her enthusiasm
but want to know of any problems.

Don't know a lot about them, but someone I know had one and he found it very good.
he used it on his own as a sole source of transport and thought it great.
Went round Scotland with it. But he has moved away now and I have lost contact with him so can't help any more.

great vehicles . bit bumpy on the 8 seater bed . we have an 8 seater tintop with full length roofrack n rooftent. does about 25-27ml to gallon on 5.5 turbo diesel 4x4 .good club bongo fury . not too expensive on parts ,i used to be vw specialist but a bongo is much cheaper than equivalent vw. very happy with ours . good for running around cornwall in summer ,makes good free camping bus.

We live close to a firm (in Staffordshire) that brings them in from Japan (low mileage) and converts them. Bed seems too narrow for those in their late 50's!

Brilliant small campervan. I have a rear conversion so the bed ( ie the rear seats ) cover the full width of the Bongo. A 2 burner hob, sink, fridge & store cupboard fill up the area just inside the tailgate.

Bought ours in August 2005 and have travelled through France a lot, plus also a trip down to Slovenia & Italy as well as through out the UK. Bought a small trailer to store camping gear instead of have it crowding up the van whilst travelling. Owners website Bongo Fury! is really good for all sorts of information, as previously mentioned.

Now have a larger motorhome, but still got the Bongo, as it's such a joy to drive. Sadly just use it as a day car now:Blush:

It's a strange world met the brother of the person I knew, he was up seeing one of his friends for their 21st birthday, he still has the Bongo, has gone on a working holiday through France,Spain and Italy he it seems is still happy with it has been gone for almost a year now. Just thought I would let you know.

hi zaskar. well spotted. 2.5 .. also has a sticher on the back to show which styling house in japan fitted the alloy wheels etc. some do have tuned engines by the style houses . forget the bongo forum just stick with bongo fury. lots of weekend do,s etc ,its a growing family bit like vw,s were in the 70,s/80,s. just google bongo,s its another world.

Bongomaniacs

We were on a site at Stourport on severn recently with our Grandson,The Bongomaniacs were holding a rally, there were hundreds of them,very friendly and well organised both nights they had entertainment on Rock band, fire jugglers, etc etc well sorted.
