Hello everyone,

We are out at Los Madriles with our friends who own a 2006/56 Swift 630. Their water pump makes a loud juddering noise when any tap is opened, or when the loo is flushed. Any suggestions as to what the fault may be?
Regards, Gary

Motor homing since 1998.
Probably that it's a diaphram pump as opposed to a submerged one that you have in your Hymer.
All tend to be noisy, but check the mountings & that no part of the pump is touching any part of the body.

Thanks, and you are right it is a diaphragm pump. I will pass that on and let you know how it goes. Gary

Always amazes me why converters use diaphram pumps, they're always noisier & seem to be 2 or 3 times the price. A twin Reich pump & pressure switch would be much better.

Hi our pump in our swift 630 that we had for 9 yrs was always loud we never noticed how load really though till we had the hymer . It's the way the pump is our pump never gave us any probs In the 9yrs so it must be the design of them .
regards Kate

I'm a fan of a diaphragm pump.
Immediate flow when you open a tap, positive displacement operation which pumps air to clear your pipes on draining down, and an audible indication of your water system has a leak!
What's not to like?:)

"Noisy" R-V pumps per-se are more often due to BAD mounting practice. Mine in the Rapido is in a recess on the top of the Tank!! would you believe, sitting it on a big "Drum" in effect, I can see that getting changed soon too!!.

When we had the Bolero I remounted the pump on rubber grommets and it was much quieter.

And that's what my friend has decided to do. Thanks for the advice. Funnily enough. The day after I posted this an Italian couple pulled onto the next pitch to us in a very handsome Giottoline A class. Beautiful van. Then I heard him switch on his water pump - exactly the same noise! Today is my birthday so I,m starting with a fifty mile bike ride round the Puerto Mazarron area and if I have the energy left, we have a table booked at a new restaurant just this side of La Azohia tonight. I keep telling all my friends that you can't beat MHF for good, swift advice when you have a problem. Thanks everyone, Gary

Old engineering trick
Do not use rubber but cork.
Cork has a much higher isolation factor than rubber :)
