There's a Caravan Club site nearby which we've used when coming back from Spain. If sailing from Portsmouth best to check you can leave the site early enough to catch the ferry.

Sunnydale Farm http://www.sunnydalefarm.co.uk/ is easy to get to from the M27 and about 15mins from the Portsmouth ferry terminal.
I've used that site as well.. very convenient but leave plenty of time if you are travelling for a ferry in rush hours.... I got a bit of a fright and started to wonder whether we would make our sailing....what should have been a 20 min journey was an hour if I remember correctly..

Thanks for the suggestions all. We are on the 08.15 to Caen so will leave plenty of time to get to the ferry from nearby site, the OH is always very keen to arrive hours before departure when travelling!! As this will be our first ferry crossing / French tour with the new MoHo will be a bit nervous but very excited so probably won't get much sleep much the night before anyway. (y)

We travelled Brittany ferries, portsmouth /caen, stayed overnight at the port last August, we checked with security in the office and were told to park up against the back wall. We stayed away from the port until fairly late think it was about 8/9pm, we moved into the queue early morning.

Stayed at the port twice . Once against the back wall out of the way but there is a sign on the wall regarding fines for doing so but its not been enforced to my knowledge . We have also queued in the ferry lane after 10.00pm without problem . There are toilets in the terminal and café which are accessable .

We have stayed at the port numerous times. No problem at all with security. If you arrive a bit early ( we were there about 4pm once) security will come and check just to make sure you aren't waiting for an evening ferry. Arrive late evening and they won't bother you at all. Set your alarm, get up and have your breakfast and drive 50m to the check in booth, job done!

Plenty of flat, guarded parking with good walks and plenty of restaurants etc to hand. Even a multiscreen cinema.

It's a very easy journey, 15 mins Max mostly motorway, to the port.

Excellent place to overnight and you will probably not be alone. We have used both Port Solent and the dockside. Both convenient but the dockside can be noisy with refrigerated lorries running.

Can anyone update me. Next weekend we are heading from South sea by hovercraft for a day on the Isle of Wight. We deliberately booked early and late 'floatings' because we planned to leave the van somewhere we can sleep in it the night before and after with the hope of having a drink or two with our dinner.

Because the van was laid up our plans were on hold but as I got the window fixed I'm now desperately trying to find the right place to park and kip....
