Dartford crossing. (1 Viewer)

Some enlightenment please regarding this crossing. I am aware that you now need to pay in advance but uncertain as to what for !!
I will be travelling down to Dover for an early morning ferry so there will be no charge at the time I am travelling, when returning it will be mid morning so I will be paying.
Question, when paying online will I have to state a return journey with a non paying outward section or do I simply purchase a single for the return journey.

You can pay up to 24hrs after save paying in advance, or I think you can pay at thurock services.

You just pay for a "crossing" there is no in or out / up or down...
Treat it like a single trip bus ticket..

When i went in August I phoned and paid for 2 crossings.. one I did a few days later, the other was a month later on the return.. The crossings are valid for 12 months... Just keep a record of any emails and receipts they send you.

I bought 2 crossings online, I got an email receipt which I rate, if you do it on the phone what proof have you got

As already said above they are valid for 12 months from buying, so no need to worry about doing it just before or just after you cross

Be a bit careful. If you pay for crossings a while in advance and then change your van (hence changing the numberplate) your previous paid crossings are NOT transferrable - you will have to pay again.

Best to pay after use, there are times that you may want/need to go the other way around because of delays/accidents.

Ifyou have an account then after 12 months they'll close it as not being used . You are best to contact them & close it yourself.
