We're having a family reunion in Barcelona the third week of April and although the rest of our family are staying at city centre hotels we are considering taking the camper. One or two nights may last into the small hours so a basic night service bus/metro/train would be good too.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Slightly off topic.... But pick pockets and petty theft are rife in Barcelona
Take care and have a great time

There are lots of sites just north of Barcelona.. have a look here..

We often stayed at Santa Suzanna, Camping Bin repos. Right on the beach and train station outside the gate.
takes about 50 mins on the train but a nice ride.

As mentioned, watch you valuables :) stay safe...

Thanks for the thoughts.

A few years ago in Figueres we parked near the Dali museum I think Boxing Day, our camper got trashed in broad daylight with lots of people sitting in the park opposite (who must have seen what was happening).
It scarred us and has made us more cautious, that can't be helped, but we were fulltiming at that point and we took a couple of weeks to think over our next step. We decided to continue full timing, add decent deadlocks to all doors and recognise that there isn't a camper out there that can be totally secure unless we want to travel in a Securicor van.

Life is what it is and most times good things happen, sometimes bad things, we take a few sensible precautions and just get on with life, in the main it all works out well.

Funny thing is though that about 10 days after Figueres we had to get to a Mercedes dealer near to Barcelona to make some repairs. We spent a couple of days in Barcelona shopping for new clothes as our clothes had been taken too??? (no we are far from fashion icons) and generally strolled around the city, saw a match at Camp Nou and had a good time. The vibrancy of the city and the people helped us to get back on track. That said Rosie who is a sweet primary school teacher and stands a massive 5' 1/2" tall was ready to tear anyone apart who even dared to scowl at us that alone get near our camper, she's just about over it now so people are safe.

I too can recommend Camping Bon Repose. Spent some great holidays there when the kids were younger, right on the beach.

For 24 hour public transport it's hard to beat Camping Masnou, at El Masnou just north of Barcelona, just 15 minutes by train from the epicentre of our reunion. Has anyone stayed at Camping Masnou?

Thanks

Camping Villanova. Have used twice. You can get a train easily into Barcelona. Big euro site with 2 outdoor and one indoor pool. Very crouded if full but otherwise good. Seems very safe.
If you are there and fancy a walk, come out of entrance and turn right - there is a huge excellent national park with miles of walking to be done.

Hi Veevee,
We booked into El Masnou for 7 nights at the beginning of this month and left after the first night. They packed so many in it was dangerous, our habitation door touched the Frenchmans next door when both opened. The 4 amp EHU constantly failed due to overloading, the showers were cold and the toilets a disgrace and they charged 37 euros for the privilege. Oh and you could only use the the wifi if you bought a coffee!
The complete opposite is camping Bon Repos, at Santa Susanna, excellent place to stay and much cheaper. On the beach, excellent restaurant, really hot showers, and good security. Only 50 minutes by train ( every 30 minutes) to Barcelona along the coast for 9.80 euros return.
Where ever you stay, enjoy

Thanks for that Steveth, El Masnou certainly has the bus and train links to die for, but don't like the sound or the rest.

Taking 50 minutes by train is not a problem, not being able to get back after 12 midnight is. My brothers like to have a party when they have one, I'm their minder! What to do...

As you are going in April you will have a greater choice, the other two mentioned above are closed until March. Just wanted to warn you about El Masnou. We chose it for the same reason, the transport links, and it was the nearest one to the city centre that was open, unfortunately it is probably the worse campsite we have stayed on.

Pick the Llacuna Parking. 20 Euros per night. It will take vans up to 7m (ours is 7.5m). The car park is manned 24/7 and the wife was quite happy with the area. You are 50m from the circular bus route, tram and subway, and numerous restaurants in the Glories. View on Google street view.

We have family that lived there for quite a while who tell us that it's more of an industrial town rather that a tourist destination. They now live up the coast in Santa Suzanna that's why we stayed at Camping Bon Repose.
