Do you have any experience, suggestions or recommendations on how to repair a damaged plastic bumper?

Yep I inadvertently reversed twice into a foot high wooden post.....result 2 major cracks down the height of the bumper.

Has anyone had one repaired or recommend a repairer/welder.

A new one is £500+

Any suggestions gratefully recieved:

I've repaired our Burstner rear bumper. We bought it broken. I got behind it. Cleaned it, roughted it up, backed it up with metal with two hidden screws and then slapped on a load of fibre filled car body filler. It's stronger than new but you can see the crack. One day I may organise some paint.

There are now some very clever specialist plastic bumper repairers about, generally part od a franchise and they will come to you.

Look in yelllow pages, Chips Away, I believe have an offshoot franchise.

A damned treacherous French tree jumped out behind me and put several cracks in the van's rear bumper.

I removed the bumper, 11 screws and some sticky gunk, not difficult.
Took it to a local bumper repair specialist who did a very good job.

The technique is to 'V' out the cracks from thr rear and then plastic weld them, very similar to metal welding. Then a complete resray to finish the job. The only query was the colour code, which doesn't exist, so it was down to a proffesional colour matcher who did a superb match.
Cost was £230 and took 3 days.

Replacing the bumper was easy and I took the oportunity to reinforce all screw fixings with some large diameter saucepan repair washers.

Bumper repair

Hi Blade,
Just doing a front end repair to a Skoda including the bumper. Bought a Leister plastic welding gun, but found it hard to use as it needs practice. the main problem is getting the right plastic to use as welding rods. Seen a wonderful video of a foreign man repairing a plastic bike wheel on utube I think. He done a superb job with a large soldering iron. Then I found the best ultra strong glue I've seen so far at a Auto paint supplier in Telford. Its for almost anything, especially bumpers. Their demonstration is very impressive with a board filled will all types of material bonded together. The nice thing is it sets in 3 seconds, and is rock hard in 10. It comes in two packs Grey for aluminium, engines, computers, carburettors, being oil and petrol resistant. Also its resistant up to 180centigrade. Also includes a black pack for bumpers, radiators, fairings, door handles, clips and switches etc, the items go on. Best tool in my kit, had it a couple of weeks and fixing loads of stuff around the house as well. You V it if its deep enough, put the powder in. Drop a couple of drops on the powder, a little puff and its fixed solid. And the name of it is Q-Bond ultra strong adhesive. About ten pounds plus vat. Try it and I'm sure it will do the job, especially those wing mirrors? Rgd's Graham.
