Hi,

I am impacted by the latest Fiat recall re ignition switches. Having never used any Fiat Professional dealers in Scotland does any one have any recommendations?

Two that have popped up are AM Phillip Trucktech, Broxburn or Arnold Clarke Kirckaldy. I am a bit precious about this lovely bit of kit of we have and don't want a 'hash bash Barney' let loose on it!

On and off for many years.
We've used AM Phillip. Not "that" impressed as there was a problem which may, or may not, have been their fault. A thread stripped as they were removing a mounting bracket. They also dis not keep us informed so we took the van up on the agreed date (had been booked 3 weeks in advance) and only found out the part had not come in after we arrived at the garage. They said it was a computer error.

Our car was from Arnold Clarke but in Sterling and they did a superb job on the minor problem (rattle above driver's seat - often hard to find). Can't comment about their other outlets.

Always - off and on
Have used Imperial Commercials at Cumbernauld for a recall and would not recommend - insisted the work had been done - (spare wheel housing) it hadn't took a lot of emails back and forth with Fiat and three trips to Cumbernauld before they agreed to do the work.
Have since used Arnold Clark in Grangemouth twice who were listed as Fiat Professionals good service would recommend.

I must say I am :) we took 17 French motorhomes to Scotland in 2011 and on day one a Carthago had a cracked radiator . Relayed to Arnold am . Checked out and by lunchtime new radiator ordered and couriered to them overnight . Fitted am and back on road by lunchtime . The French were well impressed as anyone who knows French garages will know why ! And waiting area with free wifi, leather sofas , tea , coffee and shortbread !!

Once bitten twice shy, so I haven't been back for many years, I can't afford it. I still buy cars from them, they are great value then but when they quote a price for repairs which an independent beats by charging 10% of the AC price you will understand why I do not darken their doors, I think I was unlucky in that I needed the job done during a very quiet week for work, so I was seen as a cash cow. I do not question the quality of their work, but they do charge more per hour for their mechanics than I used to charge for graduate engineers time. My motorhome goes to an independent who I trust, and my car and Bongo go to another garage which is owned by a guy who was trained by my brother in law.

I am sure you are right as you have greater experience than me :) main dealers are normally more expensive in all countries

But that did not explain the difference between £30 and £300 which was the problem. Yes main dealers cost more because they have specially trained staff, specialised equipment and tools and carry a certain stock level, and I agree this does cost some additional overhead. That however does not justify quoting for work that is not required because it was a quiet week

On a personal level my car's been there for service, without going into details this company will never have any business of mine again!

I use Paul Bowers independent garage in Dundee (tel 01382456222) he has serviced my Ducato and now my Peugeot !
Hi is a motorhomer himself (Fiat Hymer)and is very reasonable too, My summer car a Mazda Mx5 has been going there for years like many other local Mx5 club members.
Maybe worth a call, I am btw nothing more than a very happy repeat customer.
