Ferry - Hull to Zeebruge (1 Viewer)

Is it possible to take dogs on this route?

If so, are there any special arrangements for them, or do they have to stay in the vehicle for the whole crossing?

Any information gratefully received!

Things may have changed over the years but it was a rule that the car decks were strictly out of bounds once under way.
Cant see dogs being allowed in cars overnight unattended.

not used the crossing for around 10 years, before we had Lola, there were kennels of sorts on the lorry deck, saw lorry drivers using them, looked awful, vowed we would never put our dog in there

They put the dogs in large crates at the bottom of the stairs on the car deck. I had a look the last time and decided we couldn't possibly let our dogs travel that way. Mags

Yep!

That's why I was asking. If there is no access to the car decks to look after the dog then we are not interested.

We usually use the Channel Tunnel but will heading back to France following a visit to Cumbria, visiting family. We are looking to see if we can avoid the long trip to the Tunnel.

Any other suggestions as to a suitable ferry route will be welcome.

Our doodle would love it.
She sleeps in a crate overnight and often she goes in for a daytime nap.

Thanks for the link. I couldn't find it.

Just checked the kennel size and even the "extra large" size would be tight for our dog, a GSD/Border Collie Cross. The idea of her being so confined for so long will probably rule out that route for us.

we use this crossing frequently, and the kennels are new and all air conditioned and very clean, there is also an area to take your dogs for exercise and toileting if you arrange a visit for later in the evening.

I was debating the relative merits and drawbacks of the Chunnel, Newcastle to Amsterdam, Hull to Zeebrugge, and Portsmouth to Bilbao. Then my dog, just a year old, became ill. Not seriously, but throwing up, lethargic, just generally "poorly". She was fine a couple of days later, but it made up my mind that the only route for us, despite the distance, is the Chunnel.

We go Portsmouth-Caen now with our two terriers...the Kray twins...its about 6 hrs, reasonably priced if you join the frequent travellers club, and avoids any problems at Calais. Also you are a bit further south in France for the onward journey to Spain or S. France.

Our place in France is in Burgundy ie the Eastern side therefore the Western crossings aren't really suitable for us. I think we will probably stick to the Chunnel. Thirty five minutes crossing time, dog with us all the way and free, with Tesco vouchers.

We're thinking of moving to the area surrounding Hull and the ferry issue was something that concerned us with the dug. It would have been ideal to use the ferry but it's nowhere near as easy and convenient as the tunnel with a dog from what I've read so we'll continue with le shuttle. Cheaper quicker and easier.
