Box Trailer for New Harley Davidson Tourer Motorbike (1 Viewer)

Anyone have any views on the best enclosed trailer to put a new Harley Davidson Eltra Glude Ultra Limited in? Want to be able to tow it on the back with the motorhome. The only trailer i can see is the Ifor Williams BV105 which currently new is around £4200 and rare second hand with the ramps at the back. I dont want an open trailer as the harley will get filthy when towing and what thay cant see they are less likely to steal

Dont want to be spending anymore really as the bike has just cost me an arm and a leg, i could do with getting one for around £2500 but they just dont exist. Seen some second hand ones for 3k but then they +Vat.

I can only tow 1.5t so the BV105 seems to fit as the Harley is around 400kgs with the trailer i think around 800kgs giving it a bit of room to add more. Seen another one from excalibur and if money were no problem this would be the one but they are around 10,000 euros which is way out of my price range.

Now some would say why tow when you should be riding it, and of course this is valid but i want the choice.

Any thoughts and suggestions please!

Sometimes you can find a good ifor Williams trailer at farm auctions or general government auctions .you will need to google auctions to see what is available...i know it clutching at straws for you but its the best I can think of at the moment. Roy

I'm on my second Excalibur which are fantastic trailers, if a bit pricey. Whatever you get I would recommend fitting a motor mover as a trailer + bike is a big lump to hand ball around, especially if the ground isn't level.

I have looked briefly at these, i will need to see if they can be converted as they look very similar.

I would suggest having a word with Bateson Trailers near Manchester as although they are a big manufacturer they are good to talk to regarding individual requirements, very good quality and reasonable prices especially if they can remodel one of their standard designs. They made trailers for our business and came up with exactly what we wanted. You can even have a walk round the factory and see how they are made. I personally would not have an Ifor Williams trailer except for livestock, they are strong but crude.

sold my BV105 about 3 month ago, fantastic trailer but its gross weight was 2700kgs which with a towing capacity of 1500kgs of my MH means that if I was stopped then a pedantic vosa person could say I was technically exceeding the max permissible towing weight, therefore breaking the law. couldn`t be bothered with any possible hassle so it had to go.

I'm just completing the fitting of a Truma motor mover to the Woodford smart trailer. Just got to complete the electrics and mount the battery box etc.

Had to fabricate my own mounting plates, adjust the mud guards and fixings etc:

I have been reading that you can just replate it with the max towing capacity of the motorhome and as long as you are not over then this is ok, of course i have not checked this out against any laws.

Thanks, i will look into them as I will need someone that will add a battery to it as well as the electrics to charge whilst towing. Need someone that will do it all really as wouldn't be able to do this myself.

Just been on there website and the 300v comes out at £3525 + vat which is the same as the Ifor Williams BV105 but it is another option and worth considering.

If it were longer it might be ok but then the 10ft long one comes out at over 4k, the harley i think is just over 8ft long so 10ft should do but there is a premium for going longer than the normal 8ft. Always the same

A new one is about £2000 but I sold mine for £1350 a few months ago.
Just noticed that you are over 8ft long so probably no good?

It is the actual weight of the total train. Nothing to do with what theoretically can be carried.

The 1st one has rollers at the back and i need a ramp, the 2nd is too heavy as it is essentially a BV106 which puts the trailer at nearly 1tonne which doesnt leave a lot for the bike and a few bits as MH can only go to 1.5tonne towing. With the bike at 400kg dry weight it is going to be pushing the limit.

I stand completely corrected, it was what I was told and seemed to make sense, I`m wrong, sorry for any duff info.

I`m using my 2 bike trailer now, ok, not covered, but well within any weight limits.

The BV towed like a dream, had the barn doors ramp combination, heavy to manoeuvre by hand, but sold it for a small profit, result.
Don't forget to weigh everything you put in it, so easy to overload.

You could cover an open trailer or rebody a new'ish caravn chassis of the right weight to your needs.
