Saw two of these on the bird feeders today Mr and Mrs I think we know what they are but a second opinion please.

The slight crest is just the wind.

Redpoll - but is it the normal one, the mealy or common redpoll or the recently "identified" lesser redpoll? My guess due to the lack of streaking is a common/mealy. It will be a visitor from Scandinavia.

A Waxwing is a very different and striking critter. I've only seen them once, when I lived in the north.

Thanks guys deffo not a Waxwing, and yes the crest is the wind I had it down as a linnet which I believe is very similar to Mealy Redpoll but I am now tempted by the Mealy Redpoll as the Mrs also had the red crown and I dont think the Mrs Linnet does, we are East Coast so all seems to fit. Whatever it is its the first time we have seen them so will keep a watch and try to get better pictures, dont know if this helps.

After researching further the Waxwing is Starling sized so quite a bit bigger than the Redpoll or Linnet, I agree Mealy Redpoll wins.
GOOD SPOT.:xThumb:
