We are taking our cats to france when we relocate there. They will be travelling in the Motor home and they have had all their respective inoculations and have their pet passport.

We would like to know what happens at the port when we arrive is there a seperate check in for those with pets, do we need to be at the port earlier than normal, any advice would be much appreciated.

We have two Dogs labs......when we left England 5 years ago ( we had 3 labs), at the tunnel they did NOTcheck the dogs ....all they checked for at customs was for drugs.........now we have just been back to England (2 months ago) for the first time with the dogs in the motorhome (2 labs) , in France they are very strict, you go to the building for animals (it was very easy there are signs with pet paws directing you to the building), check in, they check the passports to make sure all is up to date and normally give you the machine to scan for the micro chip on the animal ,MAKE SURE ALL INJECTIONS ARE SIGNED AND STAMPED WITH THE OFFICIAL STAMP EVEN THE INJECTIONS FOR RABIES THE ANIMAL HAD RECEIVED ON PREVIOUS ANNUAL RABIES INJECTIONS) , also that they have had the tick and flea treatment done at a vets dated and signed for done no less than 24 hours and no more than 48 hours ....you have a 24 hour window to travel.
At the check in office the French female at the back of the counter said you would not believe the amount that they have rejected (and lifted a large armful of rejection papers mainly because vets had forgotten to stamp...or sign....or stamp and sign...the pets passport....vets in Spain/ France/ England...we know at our cost as a previous rabies injection had not been signed, so we had to chase around Calais at 8.00am in the morning looking for a vets open to counter sign the pet passport on one of our dogs, even though all the labels off the injection bottle had been stuck in the correct place on the passport was stamped...BUT NOT SIGNED.....at a cost of 19 Euros for the vets signature, then we had to try and get back for our train....the pet passport office said as far as they are concerned you can all go through without being checked as it is not a problem in France...but the England would not let them.
Hope this of some help
From a pleasant French peasant born Yorkshireman now living in france........MEL

Thanks Mel,

We will not be returning to the UK with the cats so this information is very good for us.
