Our Heki rooflight has just sprung a leak and needs reselling, I know how to do it but it's been hissing down for days and doesn't look like drying up anytime soon so needs to be undercover and done sooner rather than later.

Any recommendations for a repairer round the Manchester or in Lancashire? I seem to remember a recommendation for a guy in Leyland/Preston area but can't remember or find the thread.

Ta very muchly.

I don't think he has "undercover"
Yes that's what I need Andy, even to get it undercover for a couple of days I could do it myself
With the really poor spring we had I would have thought it would have shown up then and I could have fixed it in the long days of summer, we did have a summer didn't we?

Been round a few times for info on various things, even gave me free bits to repair shower tray.
Couple of guys working out of farm buildings. Lots of vans there, I think they've been there a while.

I managed to get up on the roof today about 2pm when it finally stopped bloody raining and had a good shufty. The original sealant has given up the ghost coming up to thirteen yrs old and there's a bodge so I started to scrape away what I could from this and I could then see what's happened.
If I get everything ready I should be able to do it in a couple or three hours but the weather is against me this week, it's tuff up norf th'nows :xangry:

not long enough
we had a leak back in the summer :):), we had a lot of standing water on the roof, if yours is level where stored you might reduce the amount getting in by lifting one end or side

The other repair place we have used in Preston is Hambiltons, specialises in Hymers, but is always very busy

I was going to go round the outside, someone has painted what looks like a rubberised paint on at some time. Now I have stripped the liner and motor out on the inside I can see there has been a leak before.
I managed to start scraping this off yesterday and it became obvious that the original 13yr old sealant is buggered so the new plan is to take it out, clean it all up and re-bed it on Sikaflex 512 plus run a good bead round it on the outside. I'm not after pretty I'm after watertight. :xwink::xgrin:
Edgy has kindly offered to let me use his workshop which is brilliant of him so I might as well do it properly :xThumb:

Yeah I was thinking of just runnin around the outside as I have a little leak in just one place. But I may take it all out and do it properly....

We'll this is my way of thinking, although our MoHo is 13yrs old now it still represents a massive investment for us and we love her so as there is now evidence of a previous leak that has been bodged I think removing and re-bedding is the way to go with meticulous prep, cleaning and degreasing and using Sikaflex it should be good for another 13yrs.

I would not use Sikalfex to seal a rooflight ..

.. the correct sealer for rooflights is a non-setting flexible mastic.. such as Carafax IDL 99 or mastic on a roll.

Mastic Sealing Strip is what I used .. no mess and easy to apply..

For a successful job, it is vital that all the old mastic is removed from both the frame and roof.. scrape of with a plastic scraper then use white spirit to get the last bits off..

I resealed mine earlier this year

Your right Jim for a full replacement I would use a roll... bed the skylight in then a thin layer of sealent round the rim
..should be flexible because of movement

many many years! since I was a kid
when re-installing dont be tempted to over tighten the screws. doing so will push out all the mastic and is likely to crack the brittle plastic. have seen it done many times before
