Have a look at any of the auction sites, will tell you what they are asking but not what sold for but maybe there will be a similar one at an advertising dealer's.

:xangry:I would never tow a car again, tried it for a year, Spain, Belgium etc and got totally fed up of getting into situations where I had to reverse, turn around etc. Sometimes roadworks, sat nav, sometimes just me wandering in unsuitable towns etc, once had to drive thro a pedestrian precinct as I could not turn around, Big mistake

If the car has a service history it is worth around £3500, great cars for fun and no external rust or dent issues to worry about. Only thing is owners don't seem to keep them for long.

Great car to a-frame. I've had two prior to my Abarth and apart from being a bit sluggish with a slow gear change they are great. Hold their value well too. I sold my 74000 mile '52 plate car with Caratow conversion for £2500 18 months ago.

Which engine?. the 600 is delicate and will rarely exceed 50K without major surgery!. the 700 is stronger (Could have been a Toyota design?). For 2008 it is possibly a reasonable price.

I had several issues around the Gearbox, failing to engage gears properly and showing False Neutrals. Eventually leading to a complete Box and Engine destruction Under tow!! when it was indicating Neutral whilst still in gear! . so beware.

Not withstanding, we had a lot of fun and it did what it says on the tin (until failure).

Engines need regular rebuilds . People skimp on the rebuilds which can mean another rebuild sooner rather than later. Transmissions can play up and or fail.

The concept is ace the execution not so good.

If this 2008 one has the bigger engine it's priced about right. If it's a small engine it could be a pain.

There is a 2002 one on EBay for 2200. It has the Towbars to Towcars Aframe kit which costs 1900..... It's has just had an engine rebuild. Going to have a look the weekend if it's still there.

I will admit that Smartys are automotive Marmite, some love em (me and my other half) others hate em. Usually the peeps who hate em have never even sat in one. OK if they have been abused and or not had the oil changed they can go bang after 50k miles, but find one that has been cared for and you have something that is a joy to own. Servicing is best done by a specialist otherwise things like the electronic adjustment of the clutch get missed. I did mean to pm minx on that point as she had hers done at Half rads.

I'm in the love em camp... I know all of the cons but that is part of the ownership of something that bit different. Funky little things and the default MH tow car.

My head says get a Toyota.. Heart says get a Smart.

since 2006 ( I think ! )
The 600cc version ended in 2003, the 700 version ended in 2007.
It could be the 997 Mitzi engine one ( SHOULD be in fact )
Do you know what model it is ? If it is a Pure then that is about on the market value, If its a Passion then just under market price
Any chance of a picture ?
At that money and mileage you will have to know EXACTLY what it is before any meaningful advice can be given ..

Yes I have 3 Smart cars! A 2008 (58) Passion Coupe auto, a 2010 (10) Pulse Cabriolet auto, and a 2012 (62) Pure Coupe, all low mileages.

Things that will determine the value are:
  • full service history (and who did it)
  • whether it is a full-auto or semi-auto gearbox
  • if it has steering wheel 'paddle' gear changers or not
  • if has the MHD stop/start system
  • what trim it is (Pure/Pulse/Passion)
  • what extras it has (eg alloy wheels)
  • if it has 2 remote keys (a lot don't!)
  • the interior/exterior condition
  • whether it has a special paint colour and/or is metalic
  • mileage (not just driven but towed); the mileage in particular can make quite a difference to the price I've found
  • if it comes with any warranty
  • whether bought privately or from a dealer
  • what work has been done to it, or needs doing
I'm keeping the 2010 Cabriolet and the 2012 Pure but am selling the 2008 Passion - it's a great car and the Passion is the top of the normal trim levels.

Depends what model it is as to whether it's a good price or not - some basic clues as to what model it might be:
  • Pure: if it doesn't have 2 raised 'pods' on the centre of the dash
  • Pulse: if it has the pods and the gear change paddles on the steering wheel column
  • Passion: if it has the pods and a sunroof

Passion would also have paddles.. All my Passions have had paddles :)
AAnd I have JUST put my Cabriolet up for sale.. Got a hankering for something different ( which I have no doubt will last 5 minutes and then I go back to Smarty ownership ! )

10 plate Passion cabriolet with all the toys ( st nav, blue tooth etc etc ), 84bH not the 71bH version, goes like stink, £30 a year road tax.. Got it up for offers around £4500

Sorry Jaws, but not all Passions have paddles, it's an option on them so you have been 'lucky' that yours had them as the previous owners must have paid extra for that option - all later (2008 on) Pulse models do however have them as standard as they're meant to be the middle ground 'sporty' ones!

This thread reminded me that I meant to put my Smart on the general classifieds too ... so I have ... £3,300 for a 2008 (58) plate Passion with 17,300 miles on. :D

i tried to get in a smart car once...would of been comical if not for the pain it caused
Being as they are very spacious and one of the easiest cars to get into the mind boggles as to HOW you were trying to get in ... not through the rear was it???

i am 6ft 4 and very broad, plus my spinal injury makes bending very difficult. my wife, daughter and a friend were all in hysterics watching, and said it was like watching a clown car in the circus. thats a good reason why i normally drive a big 4x4 and the wife has a 4 door daihatsu (which i can just about get in and drive)

Steve I think the thing is do you actually want a Smart or is it because one has been offered ? Reading between the lines the one near you is about right price wise .
If you do want one I would reccomend an in depth inspection.

Problem were having is every car we've seen fitted with the A frame kit is hundreds of miles away which makes arranging the vital on a Smsrt hard to do ..

If I was offered one locally as good as you describe I would get it inspected . Remember though it's expensive to get an A frame kit installed if the car is for towing behind you MH ..
