Having just had a bad experience with the write off value for our car in a non fault accident I am seriously considering GAP insurance on our first, soon to be collected, new to us 2015 motorhome.

Any thoughts as to whether this is relevant for a motorhome or recommendations for a provider?

Thanks

Lots of insurers will give new replacement in first two years on Motorhomes Safeguard for one worth it on a large investment like a new van.

Thanks. we have gone with Comfort insurance so I will have to check. I thought the new for old was only for the original purchaser of the motorhome and we have bought one with just 3000 miles on the clock.

Comfort do it I believe, but not sure if it applies to 2nd owner - suspect it might, because it's based on the age of the vehicle from first registration date.

over a Year Yay................
I bought it with my misus's birthday presant as I thought it was good value for money at the time as a just incase.
3 years down the line it was not need & has just ran out.
not bad for a car but I would not buy any extra paint coating that they try n sell you. I cant remember the name but a load of bull.....

But the gap well if she had crashed it in those 3 years we would have gotten the full value back regardless....

Are NFU still covering Motor-homes? I used them for my R-V for years But when I enquired about the Rapido, after a break of 2 years they said they no longer did M-H Insurance?.

Pete
Yes, ours is insured with NFU still
Some people have said that they only insure existing customers
I'd be persistent as their cover is great
For example no limit on cost of replacing an A class windscreen

Hi. Yes I was Surprised, As I had been using them for more than 10 years with American R-V`s too. The caravan we bought CAME with a years "free" cover (incentive to buy?), but we could not get on with it. So when we went back to a Motor-home (to old for r-v`s now) I enquired and was told "sorry no longer taking Motor-home cover?" So maybe ONLY for Existing clients?.

Hi Pete

I'd suggest speaking to them again and being persistent

Wort it for the great cover and no quibble claims

Regards
Robert

Personaly I would not have settled at a loss in the first place, but understand sometimes it feels as if you have little choice.
I would then in the second instance gone after the at fault driver in a small claims court for the difference in the real loss value
he would then go screaming at his insures and in turn a better offer is sometime forth coming.
Many people people forget that the purpose of insurance is to make you whole again, not to make you a profit and certainly not to make you at a loss
I would in the same circumstance go to great lengths to point out that any delay in a proper settlement, would increase pro rata the claim for loss of use and necessitate the hire of a replacement vehihcle

Our MH is insured with Motorhomefacts who I believe is the same company as Comfort? We have new for old as part of the insurance?
On a new car two years ago we took out gap ins. and paid £400 which covered £10,000 of ins. to cover the difference that the ins. Company offered as a payout for a write off, however, in the papers I read you can get gap ins. for as little as £165 so look around.
By the way our last car was written off by some kind gentleman who crossed a main road straight into us head on, our gap insurance on that car was out of date at the time it only lasts three years.

not long enough
I have bought (been talked / conned into it) years ago on high value cars, possibly most applicable to them as depreciation is massive, motorhomes tend to depreciate relatively slowly so the financial difference is not as bad

IMO not good value for motorhomes, having said that peace of mind for £250, a small % of what you are probably paying, just do it if you want to (y)
