Hello, we've got a motorhome thats already fitted with a roof mounted setup and the cable was fixed down with self adhesive cable tie bases but afterwards a couple of years they have deteriorated and come away. I think the answer maybe to use white rectangular cable trunking and stick it down with sikaflex type sealant, what are the alternatives. ?

Any advice would be appreciated

Chris

Go with your own thoughts :xThumb:
Personally I use self adhesive trunking and just seal the sides with sikaflex

I used a length of YT2 cable trunking to secure my solar cables as you say.
YT2 is around 20mm wide by 15mm deep.

If yours is for a sat dish cable you could use YT1....15mm by 15mm, it should easily take one sat cable.
You can buy sticky backed but still needs a line of sikaflex to be safe.

Makes a neat job

I reckon the white trunking is the way to go, it comes plain which you could stick or with a self adhesive tape the tape would my choice.

Yes I thought about that and the UV Rays would probably not deteriorate the adhesive too bad although the sikaflex would perhaps be more permanent

I use sticky back almost every day in my job.
The tape sticks like shit to a blanket indoors on a smooth clean surface, but doesnt weather too well outdoors.
Still needs a bit of sikaflex to make it permanent.

Ok then standard trunking, no tape to deteriorate and a nice neat line of sikaflex along the underside and seal the ends of the trunking with a splodge of sealant.
Thanks for the suggestions

Yes you have the luxury of time. Just don't try putting the cables back until the adhesive as set.
On a one day job self adhesive is essential as the cables have to go in straight away to complete the task.

Just bought this kit plus a reel of 4 mm solar cable for £15. I have a mate who will make me the stainless brackets FOC to mount the panels to the roof. Total outlay should be about £200 for 240 Watts of solar power.
Thanks for the heads up with the sticky backed trunking I'm going to use.

Was a newbie, now a Middie.
I use 6" nails. :xThumb: The cable never moves, but you can scrape your head moving around inside.

Simple answer is to just fix the cable with dabs of Sikoflex at regular intervals.:xThumb:

Yes I think that is the most practical method especially as the cable is routed in a curve to avoid a roof vent, thanks for the suggestion

Since 1996, had Elddis/Swift/Rapido/Rimor/Chausson MHs. Autocruise/Globecar PVCs/Compactline i-138
When I put the solar panel on our roof, being a PVC using rigid trunking wasn't an option due to the undulations etc, so I placed the cable where I wanted it and used some gaffer tape strips to temporarily hold it down then with Sikaflex I stuck some cable clips over it (those used for electrical cable in a house like the below) ... mine were white and I removed the nail ... although I suspect Toots wouldn't!

Same as Andy except I use silicon along the sides makes life easy if I ever need to remove it.

Although it will do the job it looks tacky and makes cleaning the roof a pain.

It also has the advantage that water can pass under the cable so shouldn't cause puddling on the roof.

And me once a year, on my hands and knees with a sponge pan cleaner. Mostly because I can see it from my bedroom window

Always give the roof a quick once over when I wash the van & at least once a year I get up on the roof and give it a thorough clean, solar panels coming off next time, a bit of green algae under them.:xlaugh::xlaugh:

Returned 2015 after many years of kids and other expenses!
Nails (6") that should do it. !!
I would do that little bit extra over @Tootles and bang the end of the nails over inside. Saves getting any bloodstains on the furniture

Sikaflex sounds good to me!
