Hi, I have picked up my new (to us) motorhome and have found a switch under the seat on the dinette. I have no idea what it is for other than it glows red when switched on!!

Can anyone help please? MH is a Hymer B564 2004.

If I can, I will attempt to upload a picture.

Many thanks

Paul

Could it be to disable the interior alarm so you can set it whilst you sleep in the M/H?

it was off last night and no alarm sounded and the water is heating with it off. Could it be a phantom switch just to confuse me?

It's just a bog standard switch with a neon to tell you when it's switched on. It could be doing almost anything.

You best bet if you can't figure it out is to see if someone with the same model of van also has it and knows what it does.

It looks like an after market fitting to me, can you see behind where the wires go to?

It doesn't look the same and I'd have to check again (I did read the manual once) but I seem to remember that the switch we have under the sofa on our Bailey controls the heater in the grey tank.

Why would you have a heater in the grey tank?

If its empty it wont freeze, and surely if you are in the van there would be enough warmth from above to stop it freezing? (Unless its b****y brass monkeys outside!!)

But it's not always empty and it wouldn't get much heat from the van slung underneath the back end and the wrong side of the insulation. I can see another grey waste thread coming . . . . leave the valve open and leave it to drain on the pitch. :xThumb:

Crikey, I must be soft, dont think I would want to go away if it was cold enough to freeze external tanks with residual heat from above! Lol

I have so many buttons in my van that I don't understand.

Just ignore it:xThumb:

And another thing :wait: the cold from below on an outside tank far outguns any residual heat it may get from above. Winter trips are great fun, warm and toasty van after a brisk walk with the dog. I always have the coffee ready when Fido and the the wife get back.

What are the holes next to it? Did the previous owner have an inverter fitted which has been removed and this was the 'on/off' switch to avoid leaving it on and drawing current when not under load (ie nowt plugged in)?

Anywhere near your Fridge? We have a (red neon) isolator switch for ours hidden away in the cupboard under the Fridge.
