Just been told my scout gas bottle locker should not carry 2 X 13kilo botttles, they fit ok, but I was told durring a hab service that its too much weight on the locker?

that brings me to carrying less gas capacity ok in the Uk "one big bottle , one small one for emergancy use only" but when touring europe is it possible to get "fillers" for uk bottles or is the only way out of this an proper gasglow setup or paying through the nose for camping gaz

If the 13 kg cylinders fit then use them? Obviously the Autotrail Scout has been designed to carry them!
My Autotrail Cheyenne carries 2 x 13 kg cylinders with no problem at all.

Have you joined the Autotrail Owners Club yet?

no not yet, but my wife did have a long telephone conversation with Maureen Smith
the Club Secretary when we were considering a Cheyenne 660, we toyed with the idea but then let it slip , I'll go and have another look at the web site,

re the gas bottles I thingk I'll give Autotrail customer services a ring next week, I need to speak to them about getting a shower unit anyway.

Hi
You can't exchange UK bottles abroad.

You have two other options,

1.buy a propane bottle refilling adapter and fill up at any Autogas station
2.buy continental bottle and regulator if you run out.

Hi Sebthegeko,

I have a 2006 Auto Trail Scout which was fitted from new with two 13kg Gaslow refillable cylinders with no problems. When the system was fitted an adaptor was supplied for use with the system when on the continent. I have not had to use it, I am going to France in two weeks so I have just topped up my refillables at Morrisons.

I'm going on the tunnel/shuttle and they have no problems with Gaslow cylinders as they can be turned off/isolated and have an automatic 80% fill/switch off built in.

yep found them, there quite a few, what about overfilling, do you need a gadge of some sort, or do you only fill empty bottles and work out what you can put in.

There is a lot of controversy over this procedure .. some say it's highly dangerous, others, myself included use common sense.. everyone must make up there own mind, if you have any doubts don't do it ..

you only fill empty bottles to a max of 80% and go by the amount, the adapter has a filling guide for each size bottle.. but it's easy to calculate .. 1kg of propane = 2 litres ,
so a 13kg bottle should have no more than 13 x 2 x 80% = 20.8 lt (approximately)

and cost around £10 to fill..

so 4 fill ups (of a 13k bottle) and it all profit.
