Check online for ComputerActive magazine.Norton picked up a reputation for being resource hungry in the past but they are much better now.
I have used Norton for a number of years and I am very happy with it, but there are alternatives.
With respect to Gellyneck I would not want to rely on a free package, Norton will be much more effective in keeping nasties out and keeping your data safe.
The only difference between many paid for and free security programs is the ability to control what you want using a much more user friendly/programable dashboard on the paid for version.I would not want to rely on a free package, Norton will be much more effective in keeping nasties out and keeping your data safe.

I think you could come up with good reasons for going both free and paid. But on the basis the free vendors also try and seduce you into paying for their "premium" versions, surely they have to offer something better otherwise how can they survive?
The articles I look at generally show the free programs as Ok but the paid for programs catch significantly more nasties.
As like many other debates on this forum its horses for courses but in this day of increasing digital crime for me the extra reassurance provided by a premium product which includes a firewall and a password manager for something like £25 per annum is well worth it.
As you say horses for courses.
Used AVG Free for a number of years on a number of Windows pc's, no issues. Then switched to Avast Free again with no issues. Happy to put up with occasional upgrade nags and save the cash.
Firewall in all cases ZoneAlarm Free, no issues.
Password manager, KeePass, with no issues.
During this time had to assist a number of others who had paid versions of MacAfee and Norton so perhaps it's partly based on how you use the software?

Both Norton & McAfee have been a pain in the neck every time I've let them run on a new PC because they came with it.
One of the first things I do now when I buy a new PC is to remove such software if it comes with the PC.

Today's cyber criminals build malware designed to slip past antivirus programs undetected. And viruses only account for roughly two percent of the malware threats you’ll face. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium crushes the new, and more prevalent, threats, while keeping your online experience fast and hassle free.
