Battery left on or not when away for months? (1 Viewer)

When I have been away for 3 months have taken the battery off my car.
to stop it going flat, also take with me in case I flatten my motor home.
for a jump start.
My question is if I take the battery off our new nissan Juke will I have problems when I connect back up? Alarms radio codes etc.
As the previous car was a clio no problems.

Can you run a lead to it? What I do is leave it in with an intelligent charger that are quite reasonable now. No worries then.

I agree. .. I do the same and have left the charger on for all the time we are away six weeks or more.

Same here, C-Tek on the cars, we tend to be away about 3 months, start beautifully on return & no problems (except remembering to take off the SORN!)

After 3 months we just returned. Our Toyota IQ started perfectly, moved it a bit and next time I tried the battery was too flat to start. So three months looks like too long without some charge. How about a family member starting the engine and running it for a short while after six weeks? Alan

Yes, you may need to re-enter your radio code. Your alarm obviously won't work without your battery connected. I intend to connect a trickle charger as the lads say, h/brake off and in gear.

You removed the battery so in doing so you removed the security....immobiliser and alarm etc.
You may as well leave it unlocked as well.

You can pick up "Maintainer" chargers for less than £20 these days. they will save the cost of a New battery, over a Winter.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I first started reading this thread ... if the vehicle cannot be locked with the battery removed, and I doubt it can, then your insurance would probably be void, regardless of whether it is in a locked garage or not.

The intelligent charger is the best bet, we used one when we went to France/Italy for 6 weeks and it kept the battery nicely topped up.

As An Afterthought. I used to store My Winnebago for months on end in a storage lot with no power. The 80watt Solar Panel on the roof kept the Batteries (3 X 85amp) from damage OK. BTW that was in Texas? perhaps a BIT more sunshine there!!

Looked on ebay seen lots. Seen a wolf for £24. Just hope it will be ok left on for 3 months or more.

Well I normally do, I cannot see what problems it could cause but not 100% sure on that.

My solar panels are permanently connected so should be OK with a charger.

No problem, glad I could help, Picked up one myself, great little charger , using it at the moment on my Quad .

Just had my thinking cap on, what if I used a timer like you have to switch your lights off and on when your not in the house.
And set it to come on for a hour or so a day.
What do you think to that guys.

I cannot see it doing any harm, but I would not bother, when I am away I am going to leave it connected and switched on full time.

The unit says that it is suitable for permanent charging, and the electricity used must be minute.
