Now the weather is getting colder it looks like we will have to buy one of these. Our van is a B524 2008 and has external door seals. I've read that there is a problem with external seals leaking when the screen is fitted. We spoke to Van Comfort at the NEC last week and they quoted £375 plus £25 for press studs to overcome the leaking problem. I think £400 is a bit steep for something I think I could run up myself in an afternoon. Also I'm not keen on sticking press studs on the van. Van Comfort expect you to stick these on yourself which rings alarm bells for me. I wonder why they aren't prepared to stick them on? Any thoughts? We phoned Taylor Made a while ago and they said they had lost the pattern for our van in a fire. Grateful for advice especially on the door seal problem.

Excuse my ignorance on this specific issue. I haven't heard of this problem, though ours is an earlier model (2006). Even if th door seals are external, how big a risk is there of water ingress? Th bit that fits over the door is a very thin envelope corner and I wouldn't have thought that would cause such a problem. However, if it truly does, have you tried Silver Screens in Cleackheaton? Gary

Getting thermal screens for our rv was really difficult and external ones would have been really difficult to fit so I sourced internal material and made my own. Really easy to make and very effective at keeping the rv warm. I don't get condensation and they stick to the windows with suckers. We fold them down in the day to let the light in. Cost a fraction of the price. Got the material from www.olearymotorhomes.co.uk. I've got photos on my phone so will post separately.

When we hired a motorhomes they came with internal thermals/blackouts and suckers. I was this time of year and every morning the windows were very wet inside as were the thermals. It was a very messy job taking them down each morning and many times left the suckers on the screen. On my own van I have externals and they work very well, again they get damp due to frost and rain but a much better option in my experience.

We went for the LUX2, from Hindermann via VanComfort, 325.00 delivered. We have external seals and it fits over the door, other side is press studs or beading.

They do not like to fit the studs, I believe it us to do with vehicle warranties (ie should be done by a dealer). Personally I think it was also down to the time it takes.

We used suction cups to hold the screen in place, found a specialist supplier who do a suction cup that will not damage the bodywork after prolonged use. So far rock solid and quite easy. No condensation at all.

Thanks Neilfg. Can you tell me where you got the suction cups? Are you using those instead of the studs?

As @Gellyneck said suctioncupsdirect.co.uk, looked high and low for something like the ones CoverTech use, could not find anything. Found suctioncupsdirect preferred this type as opposed to the lever or button type as they should not damage the bodywork or transfers and they stay in place very well, tried 2 sizes 47mm work well and 64mm more than adequate (big even), would not go smaller than 47mm.

Jim, I think you are a star. I have been tearing my hair out looking for a thermal screen for a Laika, clicked on the link for Kantop, there on the gallery was my van, checked the catalogue, it is listed but there are two versions for my model year so sent the enquiry off tonight, fingers crossed.

Update, finally got my cover from Kantop and installed it. Very neat cover which fits well. The only tricky bit is gluing (Sikaflex) the rail above the door, only one shot at getting it right!!. Plus side is no drilling of the bodywork and a price of approximately £200 including shipping and bank charges.
