Am thinking of a winter sight seeing break to Spain and Portugal, during Jan Feb. Will ferry to north Spain and would like to use a mix of campsite and aires.
Am an experienced motorhomer in France and Germany but have never been to Iberia before so any advice of sights and sites would be welcome.

Iberia is easy!!! It may be cold in the north of Spain in January but the roads will be clear. Even if there is a major snowfall you won't be held up for long (there are huge parking areas ready at the side of the motorways to accommodate vehicles caught up in these circumstances) and once you get south (Spain or Portugal) you are guaranteed better weather than GB in Jan and Feb. There are more Aires (Camperstops) now in Spain and many places to park up for the night. Portugal also is a good place for motorhomers, with many Aires and wild camping opportunities near the reservoirs (barragems). ACSI sites are worth using and in Portugal the coastal areas have many Orbitur sites open (chain of Portuguese campsites).

You are also most welcome to call in to our neighbours camperstop in Totana, Murcia and if we are at home we'll introduce ourselves!!! Whether this is an incentive or not is up to you!!!

Whatever you decide you are sure to have a better winter in a Motorhome than you would in Britain.

If you want sightseeing on your way south. Segovia, Toledo, Salamanca, Toledo, Merida, Caceres, Cordoba, Granada are all good cities to visit (depending on your chosen route) and Lisbon in Portugal is also a great city.

Why does Portsmouth-Santander run all year yet Plymouth-Santander doesn't run in January & February ? Always thought it was due to weather but obviously not.
