Hi guys,

We have a small problem (I say small - he's quite big!), that at mealtimes our youngest who is 18 months can be messy at times.

We have been putting a sheet over seats whilst he eats to prevent any marks on the upholstery; however, we are looking for a more elegant, permanent solution.

Although, when discussing getting covers, we also wondered about cost of covers vs getting the upholstery professionally cleaned (or dry cleaned), and whether this was the route to go down. Anyone got any ideas or experiences that we could explore?

Hi, with four kids (now big) I feel your pain.
IKEA sell really cheap £2? Fleece blankets, easy to wash, soft and nice to sit on, different colours. I'd cover your upholstery with these tucked in everywhere and have a loose one to throw down near your lad. In fact at that price I'd had a few. We still use these for the dog or my 94 year old grandmother...one lays on it, one spends the day sat in a chair under one!

I agree with Mousy, cheap fleeces are ideal. They tend to stay put when tucked in and are so easy to launder and dry.

Also, get some Scotchguard spray off Ebay and get all your carpets and seat cushions outside one days and give them all a spray :)

The reason we moved away from our camper was too not have to faff around with awnings and small children..!!!

I wish. In the 4+ years that we have had children, we have had precisely zero times where we have had any overnight childcare help :(

But, they are our kids and our responsibility so don't expect help, we just kinda assumed the oldies would want to help. Oh, how wrong we were!

I got some quality upholstery material from our local market (dirt cheap!) and made some fitted covers for ours - took a while but not particularly difficult. They look like they were fitted originally (the original ones are still underneath them).

We have a two year old and its chaos at meal times.
We bought some throws from home base and just shake gem outside of the van and wash them at the end if each trip.
They serve their purpose.
The only downside is that they're like a woven thread cotton and our little darling picks and pulls the threads so we have long shoe lace like clicks in ours, so if you're buying throws, good tip is close weave or one piece type material.

since 2007, 25 years tuggin before that.
We found straight jackets worked well with our five kids.
Glad I kept them as they are now equally useful for the grandkids.
