Having spent the last 2 summers touring France with ACSI/Aires, we are planning to do 2/3 months in Spain in Jan/March on a site (maybe Costa Blanca area) but worry about pre booking for such a long period and committing to a site that may be disappointing. We have a few requirements:
1. We have 2 dogs so must be somewhere we can walk them off site. 2. Prefer not to be in the middle of nowhere but maybe near a beach and within walking distance of shops, restaurants as we don't intend to move once we are there. 3. Public transport access nearby. 4. Site quality needs to be good and we don't mind Rallying but not essential.
Any recommendations fitting our spec would be gratefully received. Thanks

We go to Cabo de Gata Almeria.but it's a bit out of the way but great for the dogs 15 mins to beach and loads of desert to walk them on.
It's a really great atmosphere on the site lots of nationalities there's a restraunt and small supermarket and pool if your brave enough to use it.
We also tried Donana Playa at Portugese end and found it to be quite good however a bit out of the way again but access to miles of beach nice big pitches supermarket, bar, lots of space and easy access to Donana national park.
We are taking the car with us this winter to get out and see more.
There is also a site at El Rocio,El Aldea. which is nice and the town is a must to visit if in the area

Bonterra Park is busy, a great site for socialising, close to beach and town. to be dogs not allowed to even wee on site! dog walk at the back, but dont think you can get out the gate there, so your pets may have to walk cross legged for a bit must work ok though always plenty of pets there. Orpessa down the road is quieter, own restaurant and right on the beach, bit more of a walk to shops and supermarket. didn't like Capo de Gata at all, too remote, but we are all different. think you would need to book for Bonterra, not sure about Orpessa.

Camping virtually ON the beach at Camping La Garrofa, just outside Almeria city:

http://www.lagarrofa.com/

Offers ACSI discount price - €16, I think. Stayed there spring 2014.

We've also stayed in nearby Roquetas de Mar in mid-January and enjoyed great weather. But that was at a hotel. Lots of wild camping in Roquestas at the time, on the western outskirts of the resort.

Bonterra park for me. we don't have a dog but pals have and are issued with a key for the back gate which leads to a large unused camp site for dog walking, has others have said very handy for the things you mentioned. Pete

We left Bonterra after 2 days it was very difficult to stop your dogs weeing and the comments from other campers disturbing . Nothing against their dog policy we had to sign a dis-claimer plus carry disinfectant bottle when dog walking (maybe an idea for all sites)
Its Cabo De Gata for us we like the area , weather and campsite interaction with many nationalities (not to keen on Little Britain enclaves). Yes it can be remote for some but our dogs love area around the site

Where the Campo comes down almost to the beach just under a mile from Nerja towards Torrox is a delightful little natural campsite where the few permanents have made tiny gardens and all nationalities (even Brits) are welcome. Will add the details if you are interested.

We did a few rallies at La Manga and enjoyed them all be it the facilities are poor I have also been told the TV and Internet system is excellent paid for monthly. not been for the last 3 years. This year everybody who we met latter said they are not going there again due to the surrounding fields being sprayed with human (fertiliser) and stinking the site out. Pete

There is a smell occasionally if the wind is in the wrong direction but it did not bother us and we were there for 5 months as we will be this winter. Excellent TV and Internet for 1 euro a day, good golf, cycling walking ect.

In my view the further south you go towards Almeria, the coastal sites get smaller and the area less commercialised, and better for dog walking on beaches/in hills. South of Murcia is the direst part of Spain and it gets a lot of sun in winter. For us, with a dog, the sites in the Cabo de Gata Natural Park work out best.

I'm hoping you meant 'driest':). We'll probably be heading that way in Feb. We have a dog, and prefer less commercialised sites. (y)

Hi
Yes I have been there a few times and enjoyed the C& CC rallies. but on meeting friends who have been there for several years are not going again due to the smell. I don't know how bad it was they said it was bad. Pete

Been going for the last nine years and there has hardly been any change in that time as far as I have noticed.

I think you either love or loathe the Cabo de Gata site. We were there from mid January to mid February this year and saw many people arrive, spend one night and go. One couple even went after an afternoon.

As to driest...we had all 7 days- per- year of rain in the month we were there and more and more ! Also some seriously strong and damaging winds. After we left there were even floods.

We shall go back this year.

Yes, when I listed Cabo de Gata I was careful to not to mention the ACSI site of Cabo de Gata, which I've visited but wouldn't consider staying at.

Alos, I did mean driest not direst! I have to acknowledge that the winds have been sever at times over the last 8 years.
