Does anyone use bio detergent in the loo??
If so how much do you put in .
Ive heard its better than the blue chemical stuff

I think there are many Funsters who use bio detergent in the loo. We do - usually a couple of capfuls and then flush the loo to add a bit of water. Works well.

Yes,two capfuls of Aldi's Almat bio plus some water.

Sainsburys cheapest bio powder. A 95p box will last weeks. A half cup just dropped into the cassette via the loo will work perfectly ( that's a half cup baking measure--about half a tea cup will work)
There will be no nasty smells when you empty the cassette.

I use it (after reading about it on here). It's brilliant as is the same stuff in soluble 'sachets' which make it easier to put the right amount in. I put one in the cassette before I replace it (and while outside the van) because I store mine inside the cassette access door. Thus using otherwise wasted space.

We use Lidl own brand I just add a splash and a spash of fabric conditioner .

As others, a couple of capfuls and about a litre of water. I just pour it down the spout as with the "proper" chemicals.

Been using the scented Aldi Bio for several years, great stuff, use a blue if van going into storage for any length of time.

it's certainly cheaper.. probably why it's popular.. but whether it does the same or as good a job as Blue is up for debate..

I'm in the 'Blue' camp... tried bio-liquid and went back to using Aqukem blue .. there is more to it than just keeping smells at bay ..



Thetford say this .. Aquakem is:

• Tough on waste; easy on the waste holding tank
• Liquefies waste for easier tank emptying
• Deflates gas build-up
• Keeps waste holding tank fresh-smelling
• Prolongs the product life of the waste holding tank

also..

"Household cleaners may cause permanent damage to the seals and other toilet components."

it's been discussed on here endlessly.. best way is to try for yourself..

Me too Jim tried it cos everyone was raving about it on here. The only benefit I saw was its cheap but nowhere near as good as the blue stuff. We spend approx 6 months a year in the van and the cost of toilet blue is negligible.

trywithout any thing . after a few fills it stops smelling , but dont wash the inside of the cassette out . let the natural bacteria work. and try not to empty it till its almost full.
its really your pee that causes the most smell . stop peeing in it and its cured.

Tried the almat ( aldi ? ) liquid and then tablets on a 6 week tour but I preferred the thetford green that came with van . I empty the cassette every day and everything was broken down but there was always a cabbage smell when the flap was open .
Any suggestions how to mask the smell ( tried not eating cabbage ! )

I thought people were using 'bio' liquid in order to be kinder to the environment............ the idea being that you can still empty the cassette into a toilet that goes into a septic tank?

I use the Bio stuff in the SOG system and the smell is ok - although I never use the toilet for number two's as I am always on site.

If you use the SOG you don't need the Bio stuff. Also it is the Urine which causes the smell so clearly your SOG works!

We use bio sachets, and I personally use a bed pan type urinal bottle to avoid the wee build up in the toilet cassette, and greatly reduce the loading of the cassette. It can be easily and daily emptied in the toilet block or disposal point. It is also more convenient for those night time trips. We all have different routines and find different ways of coping.
