A Woosh bang
While replacing the Dip Beam bulb (see previous thread) I noticed the Fog Light on the same side wasn't working.. odd I thought.. could have sworn it was.. anyway, when I went to change the lamp discovered that the lamp holder had broken off the back of the unit.. repairable.. probably..

Broken plastic holder.. how this happened is a mystery

As a new Hella Fog lamp for the Hymer costs about £90 .. I decided to call Becks Motorhomes and ask for a replacement under warranty, .. no problem, they said, send the details and if possible a photo by email.. which I did.

Lamp unit arrived today , it came complete with a new Hymer back plate.. fitting not too difficult, I managed to fit from below by pulling the wheel arch liner back and reaching up.. it is held in place by the back plate and four self tapping screws..

First Class service from Becks.. that's the second part they have supplied FOC under warranty without quibble..

That good service, I had the same problem, I think it's due to the heat the halogen bulb creates. I don't know if you could change too a LED bulb. I got my light fitting from here

this is a good point, we have driving lights on our 2007 Hymer, 21W halogens running all the time, the light fittings are both now really brittle, waiting for a similar failure to you Jim, have managed to change the bulbs twice, we have no option to turn them off other than bulb removal

Great result from Beck though (y)

Jim, do you know what the bulb is, fitting and wattage. So I can search for an LED replacement without taking mine out.

many many years! since I was a kid
the issue with changing to LED is that if the van is newer than 2006 it will have a can bus and will see a lower resistance as a blown bulb

mind you can always fit a ballast resistor across the wires at the back of the holder

Found some LED bulbs on EBay, from £2.17 a pair , I wonder if they would be to cheap.
Edit , just looked at the dimensions on RS link and maybe the LED ones would be to long.

Think I'll try these in mine(y) must admit to trying a few different types of led sidelight bulbs and not having much luck with them though
Please keep use informed if these LED's work, they look as if they should work.

Sorry I forgot about this, the bulbs never did turn up and I got my money back so still no idea if LEDs will be any good:confused:

Why would your fog lamps get heat damaged? I think I used mine once or twice last year for about 15 minutes each time

I'm thinking of fitting combined fog and DRLs in my Hymer. Sizes 3.5,3,2 inches. Anyone done it? Fed up of leaving Headlights on in countries that require DRLs
