Does anyone know where I can:

a) get my KIPOR IG1000 repaired - it will not start and/or
b) get an independant report regarding it's condition.

I would like to do (b) as the retailer refuses to repair it although at the time I had had it less then a year and used it for less than 20hrs.

I live near Reading, Berkshire, so somewhere local would be best.

A weak spot on the kippor is the On/ Off switch, if it cant be switched on it wont start:Doh:
more interestingly is why your retailer thinks he has no obligation to repair or replace it
He has to do one or the other, eevn if it is out of gaurantee there is the expected life of the thing to concider:Sad:

Mine refused to start after it had been laid up for the winter.

I couldn't find a thing wrong with it.
Spark, fuel, and compression all OK.
Sometimes valves stick open after their stems have had the winter to rust.
They should be left on compression.

I gave it a few pulls to splash some oil round it.
Gave it a squirt of "Easy Start"
Switched on.
Pulled.
It fired and ran like a good 'un, and has started easily since then.

I had the same trouble, wouldn't start. My problem happened to be the float needle stuck in the closed position, I thought it was lack of spark because the spark seemed VERY weak.
But with a little patience and the help of a friend who seemed to know something about small motors, we discovered the float chamber empty.

It's not a big job to do, but you need to do it at a workable height and not on the ground in the rain as I did at a show we were trading at.

Now if it doesn't start, before taking it apart, I roll it around a lot quite aggressively until I think the needle frees, so far success everytime.

I am trying with a LITLE two stroke oil in the petrol to see if this stops it sticking, so far no sticking, but only used it twice since.

Have you checked the oil level as they wont run if its low.

generator kipor repair

Petrol gets bad after some months.
I use Aspen petrol now. They claim it stays good for 5 years and doesn't gum the carburetor. Also it doesn"t smell .
Anyone also experience with this petrol

Sundowner, you said you use a little two stroke in your petrol.

Adding oil to your petrol increases it's viscosity.
Increased petrol viscosity weakens your mixture.

I suggest you keep an eye on your plugs and richen your mixture if accordingly.

Im sure your point is valid or in anycase was valid some years ago. And I stand to be corrected but Is it not the case that in this day and age with the lowsulpher and environment changes to petrol, adding a drop of oil in to the mix won't do that? I know that that is certainly the case in diesel but wonder if this is correct for petrol./

The viscosity of diesel isn't important as long as the pump drive will handle it Haganap.
Ditto fuel injection on petrol engines.
Injected engines works by volume.

Petrol viscosity is one of the things that regulates fuel mixture from carburettors.

It depends how much oil you consider a little.
And how well you mix it with the petrol.
A little oil added to the tank, can make the fuel at the bottom very viscous.

Checking your plug is cheap insurance against a risk that's difficult to quantify.
I'll be quite happy if you ignore what I said.

They say I would need to prove it wasn't misused. How does one do that with a generator?

perhaps you would like to name and shame the wonderful dealer with this fantastic after sales service as i for one would love to know where to vote with the wallet and avoid such a criminal response you got to a request for help in the short time you had had the genny.

I would be very intrested as i am about to get a IG2600.
Doing some research and the after care seems crap from the dealers and this problem with the start stop switch does not sound good. It creeps up a lot on other sites as well.
I cannot find a dealer near Southampton where i can go in and buy 1 face to face and if there is any problems i can take it back to him. Dont fancy buying from internet but dont have much of a choice

KMS Distributors

Sorry for the late reply on this.

The retailer I would wholeheartedly say stay well clear of is KMS Distributors , they are based in Essex. They have their own site. KMS Direct, Generators, Trampolines, Inflatable Pools, Tooling and Car Lifting Gear
and they also sell on ebay ( kmsdirectshops ).

Shows you can't trust an ebay powerseller. Sure they have plenty of positive comments but they get them for delivery and items that turn up and work. It's too late to change your feedback once things start to go wrong and their true attitude begins to show.
