Sorry for another question

Just on the back of another thread I have been reading,

Do motorhomes come with alarms?

Can you set them so that if someone breaks (opens a door or window) in during the night whilst you are asleep will sound but one that will not go off everytime you move in your sleep?

And here's me thinking that I can just pick a motor home up really quick within a few days and be on the road
My list of wants is getting bigger

Band spanking new motorhome for only £18K (dreaming)
Enough seat belts for the whole family and 2 dogs.
Fixed or very comfy bed, either double or singles
Preferably a garage
Large shower for dog crate to go in.
Now alarm

Anything else?

We can set our alarm so that it will go off but the instructions seem a drawn out process so up until now havent configured it for that to happen. My dog is our alarm, unless he gets gassed.

Maybe a photo saying I live here of my Staffishire bull terrier will be enough to to put anyone off trying to break in

Some insurance companies ask for alarms. They are a good idea, especially to deter the thief who breaks in on the supermarket carpark while you are shopping - for this you want one which melts their eardrums by the noise they make inside the MH. However, lots of folk don't have alarms so don't think they are essential and everyone has them. Good ones are also expensive!

Living the dream.
Ours has a day and night setting, during the day all entrance doors are alarmed and a PIR inside as well. Night setting cancels the PIR. :D

Not long enough, but a little common sense helps..........
The biggest problem with any alarm is USING IT. Many MH owners do not use the alarm that cost them an "arm and a leg" because they are: park up with other MH, at a rally or in a camp site. Our alarm is used every night regardless of were we are parked. The "hab" area can be used as normal, but every door is armed.
The other thing is not many others test their alarm, if they did they would know what sets it off, how loud it is and how to stop.
We have Strikeback Alarm fitted and worth the money. Talk to Eddie Vanbitz, he's the man.

We have just had a strike back fitted by Vanbitz very easy to use and you can set it without the internal sensors at night sou you can get up for a wee wee without waking up the whole area.
Incidentally our insurance company insisted we had an alarm I think most do.
The battery drain is minimal not had any problems in that area in three vans over the years.

Mmm that's quite some motorhome your describing there, if budget is around 18k think there are other issues to be addressed like getting value for money, checking pay load, sounds as if you will need a good one, is the van free of damp, if you are in your 30/40 will your driving licence cover you for driving a vehicle over 3.5tons. Things like alarms etc are best thought of as added extras when you have found a vehicle that suits you.

Sometimes finding a good base vehicle with as many added extras Solar Panel, Fiamma Awning, Bike rack etc is the way to go.

Good luck in your search, keep your questions coming that's what the forum is all about.

The £18k. Is just a daft amount.

Ok, no problem then maybe age of a van if it's two or three years old then maybe not all my answers not relevant, after that the same things would apply find yourself a good van that has what you need then budget for the extras.

We have just bought a new Swift and it didn't have an alarm fitted as standard.:Eeek:
As others have said a lot of insurance companies insist on a Thatcham Cat1 alarm.
My insurance has not stipulated this but I am still having a Strikeback fitted by Vanbitz.
Just seems sensible to me (y)

18k will get you about a 10 year old van matching your criteria. and many if not most vans are sold new with no alarm fitted. buying used, its likely to of had one fitted
other than homes (houses flats etc) then a motorhome is likely the most expensive item people will purchase in their life. unless of course you own top of the range cars. so an alarm is an essential bit of kit

Our little one is just 18 months old, he is amazing. He is so lovable an absolute gem he is.
What are they like travelling in the motor home. My Alfie has only ever been in the boot of our estate are whilst travelling and only ever been in our static.

they travel great, although my older boy prefers to sleep on the floor, the younger 2 are happy on the rear seats watching the world go by. absolutely cracking dogs for motorhoming. as you know, they have split personalities, happy being a couch potatoe or even better outside meeting and greeting

mind you I admit to being biased as we previously ran the local staffie rescue and have lived with the breed all my life
